Am I considered a URM?

Ok, so I am 1/8 Mexican and 7/8 Chinese.

My grandmother is 1/2 Mexican, because her mother(my great-grandmother) was full Mexican.

The rest of my family (all of my dad's side, ect) and everyone else is Chinese.
Because my mother's side is Hispanic, I have a Chinese Last name. So should I put that I am a Underrepresented Minority applicant?

Would it be weird if my last name is very Chinese? Would the adcom reps get suspicious? Is it possible for them to request verification?

oh and also, WHERE/HOW would I indicate my bi-racial status on the Stanford application? there's a place for "other" under the category of "hispanic." There is also just an "other" category itself.

thx

I believe 1/8 only counts for Native Americans.

If you want, you can report it I guess. I have no idea where.

My first and last name are both Arabic names, but I'm not Arabic.
I guess I could report myself as that too and get away with it, but I don't even know if that's a URM lol

Damn you for trying to make a mockery of the college admissions process. But seriously, I would probably do the same thing...:)

so you are trying to show them that you are hispanic? i am 1/4 middle eastern, should i have put that on my application somewhere?? i hate that college applications make is think like this!

well... i guess technically you are URM....but if you have a chinese name, you are just asking for trouble to try to get URM status. There is a more likely chance they will think you are trying to deceive them than they will give you any sort of boost. definitely not worth the risk
