I am thinking of taking 7 AP's next year (junior year). I am a straight A student, but I always procrastinate and then end up trying to cram at the end. My school has a bunch of pre-reqs so I only took my first AP in sophomore year.

School courses:
-APUSH
-AP Physics 1 (School doesn't offer this course anymore ever since they split Physics B to Physics 1 and 2, but I will be taking a dual-enrollment course and the teacher says most of the topics on the AP will be covered)
-AP English Lit

Self-Studies:
-AP Chinese
-AP Music Theory
-AP Chem - I heard that this AP is a lot harder now than it was before? Is it still reasonable to try to self-study it with the number of labs? I will be watching Bozeman and Khan Academy for help on the labs.
-AP Calc/AP Stats? <- Not too sure about this one

I am still conflicted between what I should take for my self-studies, because I really want to make AP National Scholar by junior year. Chinese and Music Theory should not be too hard for me because I am fluent in Chinese and have played both piano and violin for 11 years now. I have taken chemistry honors as part of my school's pre-reqs, and I really liked it so I think I can stick with the studying throughout the year. Also, I will be taking calculus honors as a school course along with self-studying for calculus AB. Would doing this work out? My school only offers AP Calculus AB as a senior year class, so I would self-study AB junior year, and maybe BC senior year while taking the AB course?

So do you guys think that this is too ambitious for a junior? I'll also be studying for the SAT's. I'm afraid I'll be in over my head so please help me out, thanks!

If you are truly strong with Chinese and Music Theory, I would say go for it! Given that you have the whole school year, chem should be doable. Since you are taking a calc class in high school, Calc AB shouldn’t be hard to self-study for.

@human997 Thanks for the input! If I take Calc AB, will Calc BC in senior year while taking a Calc AB be a viable option? Also, any thoughts on Chem? That one has me scared the most because most people on CC say it’s pretty hard.

I think self-studying BC while taking AB should be doable. Since you’ll be self-studying Calc AB already, when you take the class senior year, it shouldn’t be too difficult, so you’ll have plenty of time to study BC. In the case of self-studying chem, I think it depends on you. If you’ve taken chem before, and found that you’re good at it, I think that if you study hard, you’ll be able to pull it off. One of my friends took 1 year after Hon Chem, but he had a long time to self-study, and was pretty good at chem.

@human997 Thanks! I was alright in chemistry but I have a pretty big interest in it so I hope that will keep me motivated throughout the Self-Studying. Thanks again!

5 on your sophomore AP exam? If so - that would be a good sign.

What is your honest assessment of your overall aptitude? (I would expect it would take an exceptional student - a top few percent aptitude student to nail 7 AP exams even with a good work ethic).

@2018RiceParent I got a 4 on the AP World. However that was because I procrastinated a lot and didn’t do that much studying (which I regret).
I would say that I am a pretty good student but just I have a hard time staying motivated since all the classes before 10th grade were really easy. I plan on staying motivated and improving my work ethic this upcoming junior year.
