Am I destined for University of Cal?

Hey, two questions from all of you who give those nice thoughtful responses!!

My 9th, 10th, 11th GPA are 3.5, 3,70, and 3.90 unweighted which gives me a 3.7 unweighted and 3.95 weighted.

My ACT was 32 composite, 34 Math, 33 Science, 32 reading, 27 English and I want to major in Chem Engineering or maybe business.

Question 1: Since UC GPA drops the freshman year my UC GPA is 4.13 (using their complicated formula) so will my best bet end up a UC due to the freshman year or do I still have a chance at CMU, GaTech, Tufts, JHU, kind of schools or are they out of reach?

Assume ECs are pretty good, not killer. 4 year varsity soccer (8 year club), couple college classes, school hoby rep, school physics award, summer engineering intern, band, some volunteering w/ web site.

Question 2: My school counselor is telling me to consider UCB, UCLA, UCSD as reach schools since they only accept 20-50% of the applicants. Are they really that much of a stretch for me. Maybe because engineering is more competitive?

Thanks

You have a chance at Georgia Tech out of those. And UCSD is definitely in your range too. I would apply to UCB and UCLA as your reach schools because, although they might be hard for you to get into, they’re still within your range.

Berkeley: Match/High match
UCLA: Match
UCSD: Low match/Match
GA Tech: Match
CMU: Reach
Tufts: Reach
JHU: Reach
