I've been asked for about the fourth time this week if I got a certificate for 'AP Scholar with Distinction' in the mail. It's getting a little disconcerting, as I've received nothing of the sort and apparently it's a big deal. I looked it up, and this is the criteria:

Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

My scores are 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 1 (first AP exam; didn't quite realize there was a separate sheet for answers). Anyway, that comes out to a 3.667 average with five 3s or higher! Am I missing something here? I wouldn't really care - it's just a certificate - but a classmate told me there could be scholarships involved. Anyone else meet the requirements and fail to receive a certificate?

AP Scholar w/ Distinction is a very prestigious award and you should definitely list it as under “awards” on your application. I believe that it will come automatically (from College Board?), but double check with your guidance counselor. It really isn’t an “automatic entitlement” to any scholarships per se but it does help to bolster your overall application.

Many High Schools list the different AP Scholars on their school’s websites so College Board must notify the schools. I would ask my guidance counselor first and if they don’t help, I would contact the College Board. You do seem to have qualified from everything I read, but the certificates came out in late July. I don’t think there are any scholarships directly related to the honor but it is nice to have on your applications.
