I have a lower gpa due to my bad freshman year. It went from 3.14 to sophomore- 3.79 junior year- 4.2 and senior year is very rigorous. However the gpa that my school will send is a 3.7/3.8 W. Am I hopeless for Princeton, Harvard, and Cornell? I really like their programs (specifically biological sciences) and I know I have no chance, but I was wondering if any thing can be done at all? Please be honest and don’t sugar coat things, I really need to know realistically what I can do / my chances. I have an upward trend and a rigorous senior year / junior year but people in my grade are far more competitive.
I personally think it’s really awesome that you have an upward trend! I do think colleges will also take into consideration of the other activities you do, not only grades such as your essays, ec, recommendation letters, sat. Your grades might be a bit low, but I don’t think that should stop you from applying especially if you have other strong components within your app! Wish you the best of luck!
@AutumnBaby I agree that ec and essays matter but that is only if you make the cut from gpa from what i have heard
bump
Can others please provide additional insight? I really need it
we can’t tell you squat without ACT/SAT scores
Sat: 1520-1540
Act: 34
What was your SAT?
my friend got into Cornell with 4.0 and 1350 SAT
if your SAT makes up for it you have a good shot
Ordinarily, I don’t do chances, since I think it’s pointless to ask people who are not admissions officers to chance for any college with a single digit acceptance rate. Nor will I chance you here. But I will offer a piece of advice, since I find a common thread that troubles me, and I think will give some AO’s pause if this comes across in your essays and recs. Look at your headlines.
You need to own your successes, not dwell on perceived shortcomings. Good luck.
