I'm a senior and attending a high school outside of the U.S.(I'm an Asian.) I took the SAT in May and my score was 2250. And Ive got 780 on the SATII W.H. and 800 on the SATII Math Level II. Im going to take the U.S. history in October. But my GPA is too low: 4.65/5.0(unweighted). Im so stupid. I feel like I'm screwed up.
I wonder if I can still go to the Ivy schools(except Havard, Yale, and Princeton). Am I likely to be rejected b/c of my low GPA? I think I can improve my GPA to 4.7 if I try very hard on the finals. I'm SOOOOO worried. Nothings on my mind but my abject GPA. Am I so hopeless?
PS: Im going RD. And please tell me if I need to retake the SAT.

4.65 = ~3.7 on a 4.0 scale?
that's like an A- unweighted no?

....-_-

Yes, you're right. My GPA is 3.65 in 4.0 scale. I think I'm screwed up. That's no way for me to go to Ivy Leagues.

your score isn't too low as long as you have good extracurriculars, essays, recs, etc . . .

Well thanks. Any chances that those Ivy admission guys will not reject me just b/c of my low GPA? GPA kills me.
I want you guys to give me some realistic matches for me, too. I want to know what my safety schools will be.

There are plenty of great schools that will accept you, you don't just have to shoot for the ivies. Tutfts might be a match-slight reach.

I see...Thanks anyway.

I forgot this. My school doesn't have any AP or IB courses. So basically we don't have weighted GPA scale. Only unweighted.

isnt a 3.7/4.0 essentially an A- average?

You'll have a good shot at Cornell early

Brownuni, calm down... a low GPA is not going to kill you... sit down... breathe... (no, I'm serious!)relax... don't get too uptight about your undergrad program, that time will come when you decide on your grad school

I'm trying to go to college right now. Not a graduate school. I've heard grad schools are much harder. They look for your scores and GPAs more. I just wanted to know if my exceptionally low GPA would look really bad on my application. 3.65 out of 4.0(uw) is really bad, you know.

It's going to look bad, but you still will have a chance. It all depends what the competitiveness of your school is and what kind of classes you have taken (like have you taken the hardest possible course load). If your school is very hard and your course load is hard as well and you have good ECs, essays, and recs, you should have decent shots at lower ivies.

3.7 is not really bad what the hell is wrong with you people

ESPECIALLY unweighted

It is low for ivies. Look at the average UW gpa's of ivies before you say that we are the ones who are wrong, youngcub.

but is 3.7 equivalent to an A- average or not? because that is quite good esp at high schools where all they care for are As(90-100).

"It is low for ivies. Look at the average UW gpa's of ivies before you say that we are the ones who are wrong, youngcub. "

THats exactly what it is. An Average. Not a minimum requirement. The highest UNWEIGHTED is a 4.0. and averages mean SOME LOWER and some higher. You guys are dumb to say they have no chance

3.65 is pretty low for Ivies. Especially when it is uw gpa. The average gpa for ivies is 3.8-4.0(uw). Anyway, thanks guys.

i'm pretty sure u'll get into cornell...b/c u hav amazing SAT scores...and the admissions staff know that Asian schools r highly competitive...u cud try princeton as welll, but harvard and yale will b reaches...its always possible though...good luck

well then, maybe don't go to an ivy. does it matter that much?
