For more than a few reasons, Carnegie Mellon is my dream school. However, I don't think I'll be able to get in.

My freshman and Sophomore GPA SUCKED:
Freshman: 3.0
Sophomore: 3.4 ( 1 AP)

I took the SAT even though I'm a sophomore and got a 2020. I'll expect the same.

Basically, I ****ed up. I never studied, did homework or payed attention in class freshman and sophomore year. I sort of came to the realization I'm not going to go anywhere I want to unless I get my act together, but this unfortunately happened at the end of Sophomore year.

I plan to work my ass off Junior year and get a 4.0; the same applies to Senior year. This is a given, and let's assume it happens.

I also may be recruited by the tennis coach. I'm a nationally ranked player. So far, I am on the right track to being recruited. Hopefully that will help.

I'm in 3 clubs, have two jobs and do volunteer work.

So, with a:
3.0
3.4
4.0
4.0= 3.6 with a 2020~ SAT. I have poor grades sophomore year, and will only be able to take two APs as well as (possibly) one honors class Junior year. I'll take more senior year

I understand that this is all hypothetical, but I want to know whether I should even bother working hard because I could easily get into a state school maintaining the same grades.

Thanks a lot guys, and I'll chance back as soon as I can.

TL;DR
3.6 GPA w/ awful underclassmen grades, couple APs not including Senior year.
2020~ SAT
tennis recruit ( not sure if it matters)
2 jobs, 3 clubs, volunteer work
