Do I have a Chance

OK, so freshman year I did awful (3.1, had to drop out of an honors class) thank god CMU doesn't count it, but here I go.

I will be majoring in computer science. I am a white jewish male living in suburban NJ, lol. My unweighted GPA is 3.7 not counting my freshman year. On my SATs I got a 710 for math, 660 for reading, 640 for writing. I have not taken the ACTs yet, but i project a 29-31ish( let's pretend those are my scores). Here are my AP/Honors classes, as well as EC activities.

Honors Lit
AP Lit (4 on AP test)
AP US History (4 on AP test)
Honors pre-calc
AP calc
AP psychology
AP Computer science(will be taking senior year)
AP Macroeconomics(Will be taking senior year as well)
AP German (senior year, only can be taken senior year)

EC Activities
Best tennis player in school of 2800
Varsity Cross country
FBLA
Key Club
German Honor's Society
Make a Wish Club
Full time lifeguard over summer, part time during school
100 hours of volunteer work at food bank/ teaching special ed kids how to swim

I kinda made it look like a lot, but I don't think it is, lol. I doubt it means anything, but I have adequate knowledge of Python, Visual Basic and C++ already (programming languages) Do I have a chance? It is my understanding that CS at CMU is not easy to get into, but do I have a shot?

Thanks in advance everyone :), you're doing me a solid

Edit* I do not know my unweighted GPA. I don't think it matters, and I don't know it regardless.

Does anyone have an idea? Lol:/

I am only a junior, but considering the applicants I have seen get accepted/rejected to SCS, you don’t have too much of a chance. But never give up! They select only the best of the best and even then that’s not enough.

yeah that’s kind of what i expected:/ I wish I spent time studying for once lol. Thanks for the help though, ill give it a shot

Sorry to bump an oldish thread, but if I was to major in economics at H&SS would I have a chance at getting in?

Sent from my SCH-I535 using CC

You don’t have a chance of getting into SCS, but you have a decent chance of being admitted as an Econ major. Econ is the most competitive major at H&SS, but I’d say its a 7.5/10 for you (where 10=Impossible and 1=complete safety). I think your chances would be a 6.5/10 however if you get 33+ on your ACT w/ a 34+ in math or a 2200+ on the SAT w/ a 770+ in math.

Would I have a better chance in statistics?

Oy Vey! And what does being Jewish have to do with it? Go for CMU but it will be a stretch. GPA and SAT will be in bottom 25%. GL

Depends on your math grades. If you don’t have 3.8 avg or higher in your math courses, stat will probably be harder than econ. Adcoms tend to focus on your math grades (for obvious reasons) when considering people for math, stat, business, or Operations Research.
