Am I instate or OOS?

Here's my weird situation:

I have lived with my parents in CA for 10 years (We had a house and so we paid property taxes), both parents worked here and filed taxes to CA. However, recently one of my parents moved to another state for a while (Jan. 2006). The house was sold and the parent that I'm living with (in CA) was not employed in 2006. But we're still living here, I go to a CA school and all.
That's in-state right?

Thanks

You're almost certainly in-state. Did your parents divorce? Who has custody?

they didn't divorce. One just had to leave for a while for work.

Then you should still be in-state.

Thanks UCLAri
Yeah it's really confusing but I think I must be in-state. I have never lived in another state, and I still currently live with one parent in CA (even though she hasn't worked in 2006). But we did have a house and had to pay property taxes during that year.

Anyone else know anything?

Also, I am turning 18 in May, and my mom is moving out of CA in the summer. How does that affect the residency status thing/when is the date of determination?
I think for tuition purposes I'm fine because I have attended 4 years of high school year (there's a waiver even if I become OOS), but can anyone just make me less confused? haha thanks.

And for admission purposes I should be In-state right?

dude, no worries. If your parents leave CA a while for work, that is called temporary absence and you are still considered CA resident.
