Am I just stupid? I can't...

find where on Johns Hopkins's or Princeton's website I can check the status of my application. :'(

From Hopkins Insider : Johns Hopkins does not have an online system for checking application status, nor do we confirm application materials through email

I'm not sure about Princeton though

Is this their way of saying that they don't want me asking AT ALL? Or would it be acceptable to ask through phone?

They will notify you by regular mail/email if something is missing. Don't phone them.

Oh, really? Wow, I did not know that. Do all places do that? Like, can I rely on Princeton to do the same?

Not all colleges do that. If they send you a link with an ID and password then you can check online(even then some are too busy with ED to post anything). Some colleges will send an email notifying you that they receive your application. They also note in the email that they will send mail or email to let you know what form(s) are missing in your file. But whatever method each school use, don't call and pester them.
