Am I killing my chances if....

Am I killing my chances for getting into a tier-1 school if I get a C on my report card my freshman year?

I'm not exactly close, but I was just wondering.

Thanks.

Just 1 C will not kill your chances, but you better not get consistent Cs. Your report card better be full of letters that include "IB", "AP", and "A".

However, you don't need to be in a tier-1 school to be successful.

Just wondering- what are tier-1 schools besides HYPSM?

For schools with an acceptance rate <20%, one C could be the tipping point between you and another applicant. But it's unlikely for two reasons:
- You've probably watered it down with a lot of A's since freshman year, and if your GPA is 3.9ish, you're definitely okay.
- Lots of colleges don't consider freshman year and even more don't weight it heavily.

Stanford
MIT
Cal Tech
UChicago
Duke

^top tier non-ivy schools

Hopkins too.

I got more than one C and they weren't even in my freshman year. I got accepted into schools like Stanford and Berkeley, though I got rejected from every Ivy I applied to. ;)
