Am i killing my chances!?

This summer i scored a good job as a lab assistant. So I didn't want to leave my job. now i'm working part time and taking 12 units. it will take me another year on this pace to transfer. Chemistry is the only challenging class i'm taking this semesters. Do you guys think that taking less classes in the coming semesters will lessen my chances of transfering to good universities. Maybe they would think that i can't handle a couple of challenging classes in one semester. what do you guys think?
Thanks

Here's a response I got from a Berkeley counseler that might be of help:

"Hello _____,

....You will need to decide
for yourself whether to stay an additional year.
We do look with disfavor on students who take a
little bit longer than the usual two years,
providing there are outside responsibilities,
such as work or family.

Thank you,

A Berkeley Counseler"

So in your case, you had to work. It shouldn't be counted against you as much.

that letter should have said, then, "provided there are NOT outside responsibilities, such as work or family"

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being very hurtful), how much will it hurt my chances going to school for 5 semesters instead of 4. Anyone please!

1, because you have a good enough reason.

-10 if you can transfer after 4 semesters =)

1, colleges often take into consideration the whole applicant, including work and home responsibilities.
