Am I likely to get my preferred dorm?

Hi! I’m going to be attending the U this fall, however I submitted my housing application relatively late (Feb. 18), and I’m worried that I won’t get one of my preferred dorms. I’m fine with mostly anything, I just really want to avoid living on West Bank. My order of preference that I listed was Frontier, 17th, Comstock, Centennial, Territorial. How likely am I to get into one of my top 3 choices?

Thanks!

Next year will be a bit different than others as they will have 1 dorm fewer.

I don’t think you will get into 17th. That’s one of the most demanded ones. I think there is a fairly good chance you will get into something else on East Bank.

Middlebrook isn’t too bad either. It’s Bailey that you really don’t want.

I don’t know the answer to your question. The housing application opens early and what you end up with depends on your place in the queue. We were told on our tour today that Pioneer is the dorm hall that will be under construction for renovation for 2 years. The good news is it will finally have AC. The bad news is that in the meantime Frontier hall (which has no dining hall) will have to eat elsewhere (normally eat at Pioneer but our guide said they will probably eat at Centennial). And of course the campus is now short a residence hall and demand will be that much greater.

All 4 superblock dorms (Centennial, Pio, Frontier, Territorial) are so close that eating at Centennial isn’t a huge deal. A lot of people go there even if they don’t live there as they are open later than the other dining halls. The bigger concern is how long the line is at Centennial. I’m sure it will be worse than previous years but things will probably eventually adjust as they make changes to serve the line quicker and some people eat at other places. Comstock is only a 10 minute walk away from superblock.

@umn435 Did you get a reference number when you applied? My daughter applied the morning housing opened and is number 200 something. They go in chronological order when assigning dorms. My guess is you are pretty far down the list but I wouldn’t say you were one of the last ones. I’m sure you’ll at least get into Centennial or Comstock.
