So I just received a letter from my safety school. It said:

As soon as your seven-semester grades are available, please have your high school send up a transcript reflecting an updated rank and grade point average calculated on an unweighted 4.00 scale. Upon receipt of updated credentials, we will reconsider your application.

The thing is this school has rolling admissions and automatic acceptance criteria. I met that criteria. Everyone else who applied to this school just got an acceptance letter, none got this letter.

Does this mean that they are considering not accepting me? I'm like freaking out here. Like if I can't even get into my safety, what chance do I have at my other colleges?!

Did you send your transcript initially? It sounds like they may not have any grades. Do you match the whole class rank requirement? There’s some weird thing where you have to be in the top x% (I forgot which). Was this the honors college decision letter?

Perhaps their automatic acceptance isn’t so automatic. Not all GPA’s are created equal. If they are looking for a 3.0, for example, they may want to see mostly B’s, A’s, and an occasion C. If you transcript is littered with C’s in academic classes offset by A’s in electives…yes technically you have a 3.0 GPA but you are showing consistent C work in core classes. Or you may have had a solid Freshman and Sophomore year, a shaky Jr year, and they just want to confirm that your first semester grades Sr. year are solid, even if the overall GPA is meeting their criteria.

I’m not insinuating you are getting C’s, I’m making an example of why they may be asking to see your first semester transcript. The best way to find out would be to call and ask.

Edit to add: I just re-read and noted you did specify the school, University of Oklahoma. Why don’t you post this in their forum?

Pick up the phone. Call them. Something could be missing from your file. They could have sent the letter in error. They could have you confused with someone else. Etc. Call and ask. You will sleep better.
