Am I on the right track?

Hello,

I'm nothing more than a bit above the average junior in high school.

I'm rather freaked and getting stressed out thinking about college (which im sure is the same for many of you).

I haven't taken the SATs yet, infact i dont know where to start to study them. My parents dont believe in SAT prep (they are from the baby boomers generation) because they didn't need them to do well.

I have a 3.67 GPA unweighted (not that breathtaking) and about a 4.2 weighted. I messed up my freshman year receiving more Bs than As which lowered my GPA. Also, my class has an unusual amount of highly ambitious/intelligent kids which makes it hard on class rank, i think im currently #52, barely making the top 10%

I have taken 2 honors classes freshmen year, 2 sophomore year with 1 AP, and now as a junior i am taking 3 APs, 1 Honor and a 3rd language. My schedule went insane on me and now I ended up being a T.A. for my french class.

ECs:
- Varsity Badminton
- Key Club Editor (2nd year)
- French Club (aspiring to be an officer- elections are very soon)
- Animation Club (a club im hoping to start once ASB stops being unreasonable, i would be President)
- Thespian (I work in after school theatre)

I work my first semester with theatre and have a few months of not doing much when its over so im hoping to either do art classes or take SAT prep. I do badminton in the spring as well as a spring play. I'm free 2 days of the week - the other is dominated by clubs.

I was asked to join the PTSA commitee and NHS, but im sure if it would be worth it. I'm also a T.A. for french and I'm going to start tutoring kids in french- so I'll have the letter of recommendation.

I feel like its not enough and im worried about community service. Im scared of my GPA and im deathly afraid of SATS.

How do I look? D:

Key club seems like pretty good community service :). If you’d like of course expand, but as long as you’re fulfilling your school reqs your probably fine.
You’re doing totally fine! Of course, I don’t know what colleges you’re interested in, but you seem accomplished, well-rounded, and intelligent, and that is obviously important.
Freshman year is not as big as soph and junior to the best of my knowledge (thank God!). If you do SAT prep you’ll see how you do and be able to make further plans. But honestly, you sound like you’re doing a bit of aimless worrying (sounds like me…) and that’s not helpful at all. Keep calm and don’t worry so much yet, especially when you don’t have any defined aims yet.
Good luck this year! :)

It depends what colleges you are looking at. You are on the right track and will be a strong applicant for many colleges, at the same time there are some that would be major reaches (ivies for example). I know standardized testing can be stressful (I am in the same situation/will be taking the ACT in December), but calm down, buy a good prep and simply study.

right track for what? top tier schools? No. Middle tier but still great schools? Yes, as long as you do exceptional on your SATs and/or ACTs.

Just don’t give up
