Our debate team has alot of Sophomore's in it so I've been reminded as to what is expected of Sophomore's on the PSAT, that 150 is trouble. Out of all the kids I talked to about their scores the lowest I heard was 161 (and he was a junior)... Not everyone is the "test-taker" type and just have a weakness in standardized tests where they might excel elsewhere... but my reccomendation to you is that you start looking over SAT prep books before your junior PSAT (which determines your National Merit Scholarship eligability) and even consider taking some summer courses. Personally I loathe people who use privelege to take those $1000+ programs that help you, though the results speak for themselves.

Personally I took a nice cheap SAT course that our school offered in the summer between 10th and 11th grades where we got some packets on pointers for all the sections. It certainly didn't hurt my scores.

EDIT: Uncompetitive High School? Everytime I hear this I regret going to one of the most competitive public schools out there. My class rank is JUST outside the top 10% and my biggest weakness when applying to colleges... gah... our school is pretty cutthroat on the competition and we even have kids in the 13-16 percentile who are National Merit semi-finalists. We were also ranked on that silly "top 100" high school rankings.

What bugs me most are those kids who fight their way up into the top 10 or top 20 only to go to a school that accepts anyone in the top 20% automatically or even worse... bah!

I got my IB Diploma and 18 credit hours from Rice :/. It sounds good initially, but when you come to Rice, you realize most other freshmen have at least 30 credit hours from AP. I think 18's pretty much the max you can get with IB since Rice only takes higher level subjects, though I got 6s and 7s on all of my IB exams. Just a word to the wise, for you fellow IB victims...
