Am I pushing it?

I am currently a sophomore in HS. There is a teacher that I currently have who is very fond of me. We have a great relationship and I'm his highest scoring student out of all his honors English classes. The school year is ending at the end of the month, and although I know it's early, should I ask for a letter of recommendation? The only reason I ask is because I don't want him to forget, in the next year, how great I was in his class and my successes. I know if I ask him to write it this year, the letter of recommendation would be much more passionate and genuine as opposed to him typing one up a year from now (I'll be "old news" by then). What do you think? Pushing it?

Most colleges prefer to see letters of recommendation from teachers you've had in your junior or senior year.

Can you take a class he teachers senior year or, preferably, next year?

Nope, he only teaches English 10 honors and CP.

Is the teacher involved with any extracurriculars that you could get involved with next year?

lol nopeee

No.

....??....

If you've impressed one teacher, I'm sure you have it in you to impress another one. If you've reached your peak in your sophomore year, you have one or two other things you will probably need to worry about. :-)

Well, keep in touch with the teacher. Things may change- the teacher may teach another course that you are eligible for. If there aren't any activities, maybe you could start something, with the teacher as faculty advisor. Look into debate, a literature club, tutoring club, school magazine, etc.

I was kind of in your same position.
I loved two of my teachers sophomore year.
Since they don't teach any other classes I can take, I just go talk with them after school about school work, books, random stuff. It's a nice way to continue the relationship you have with the teacher, as well as keeping them up to date on your academic endeavers.

I don't see how a letter of recommendation will hurt. I would ask for it to have it in the bag. Maybe you can come up with better ones next year, but if that is not the case, you already have a good one.

I guess I could...I'm gonna think this through.

Thanks you guys :]
