So I just got my Fall grades...everything was looking good. Honestly I thought based on the finals I did well.

I ended up with:
Econ - A
Internship Experience Course - A
Accounting - A
Calculus - C+

Man, I was not expecting a C+. The calc class grading system was based on two tests, midterm, final, and like homework which was worth 10% (I did all of that). I got an A- on the midterm and thoroughly prepared for the final. It was looking good going into the final. I THOUGHT I did well on the final. Alas, apparently not.

Now my GPA is a 3.73 or so, down from a 3.8. I had TAG with UCI and UCD (also UCSD, but that doesn't really count?). I seem to recall reading something about getting all Bs for the TAG to be valid, but can't find that. Do I still have a chance for UCI Business Econ or Business Admin? I'm 99% certain UCLA is out of the picture now, as well as Cal Econ. UCD Econ? UCSD Econ?

If you could help me to get some peace of mind or closure, I'd appreciate it. I can't think of anything else now...still got 1 week left of break, too. :'(

Do you have TAP completed for UCLA? If so, then you are still in the running for biz. econ/math econ. My friend got into UCLA last year with a 3.6, so don’t worry.

Your semester GPA needs to be 2.0+, but the only way it’d have to be higher is one of two ways:

They specifically say it on your TAG (eg, for Math-120 you have to get a B or higher!)

You have a TAG for UCSB or someplace that has different GPAs for certain majors (UCSB requires a 3.2+ major prereq GPA for engineering majors).

Anything u can do to have that changed to a B? Go talk to the professor, email, call…go above and beyond to try and get that changed to a B. Ask if u can re-take a test or do extra credit. Write a letter to your prof, it’s worth a shot!

Thanks for the replys everyone…I also applied for Business Administration…I know that is competitive due to limited availability but do I have a shot at that? That site didn’t say anything about Bs for Business Admin…

I’m going to e-mail her and ask for specifics. I really honestly thought I would do better. I mean, I had the second highest grade on the midterm (the only other graded assignment in the class…) and I KNEW the material.

So the TAG is revoked, but is there a chance for regular admission? I also applied to UCD and UCSD for Econ, what about those? (though I’d really like to go to Irvine) I pretty much have gotten all As except for ONE other B in all classes.

I will email her and beg for mercy, hopefully she will have some sympathy for me but I sincerely doubt she will change my grade.

Hopefully she understands my plight. I was quite busy during finals because I’m also doing an internship at NASA, and right at finals time there was a huge project proposal I was working on. This really is the lowest grade I have received. :(

I told her I probably won’t get in anywhere now, hopefully she will have sympathy for me…

My professor responded with my grades. I calculated the assignments to the way they were supposed to be in the syllabus, and I got a final grade of 82.2%!?!?!

I’m hoping she calculated this wrong, I emailed her back and let’s see what she says…I can only hope it was an error on her part and I actually got a B-!

You guys have no idea how distraught I’ve been because of this grade…well maybe you do! My heart is fluttering ;_;

Don’t beg for a grade change… people normally get what they deserved. Perhaps if you got a C in calculus then it means you’re not prepared for some UCs. The professor may change your grade but I would highly recommend just dropping it and accept it as a valuable lesson for your future. You should know that almost all classes in UCs are based off of 1-2 midterms and a final. It’s better to face the C now and completely learn your lesson than to face the possibilities of getting more Cs later in the UCs, isn’t it?

What you’re saying makes sense demoz but it only applies to people who clearly perform at a certain GPA range. Considering the GPA, the OP is still a strong applicant, it’s not like they’re a low 3.0 applicant aiming for elite programs. It’s worth a shot.

Yeah she made a mistake in what she told me…nothing is being changed though.

That said, I applied to UCI Business Admin as my second choice, do I have a better chance at that? I’ve gotten As in all of those prereqs, excluding this calc class.

How about UCSD or Davis Econ? Do my GPA + ECs leave me with a shot at those?

In the email she sent me, she had some wrong numbers for the homework grade which had me at a 82.2%.

Apparently though, after I corrected her she decided that I actually somehow LOST points on the online homework, conveniently just enough for the percentage to be below a B-.

IDK, hopefully I will still be able to get in SOMEWHERE. My main stress right now is that I won’t get into any school, anywhere. Hopefully though, the C+ is not as big a deal as I am making it out to be.
