Am I special??? LOL

Today, in the mail I received a letter from the National Student Leadership Conference. Here is the first paragraph:

Dear .... (my name),

I am pleased to inform you that based on your academic achievements and demonstrated leadership potential you are invited to represent ........ (my high school) at the 2010 National Student Leadership Conferences being held at college campuses in Washington D.C., San Francisco, CA., Chicago Ill., and New York NY.

Is this a load of zCrap or is it legit. It costs $2,500 to go to a week long camp, and I don't really know if this is really worth it. They claim that colleges love to see this, but I haven't seen anyone on CC that has had this on their apps, so I'm assuming that it is not that prestigious. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

not sure about this program, in particular, but things like this tend to be scams

I don’t see how it can hurt you, other than monetarily… $2500 is expensive… Also even if you don’t go I believe you can still write “Was invited to attend…” on you app, prefereably stating in brakets that you could go for reason X,Y or Z.

However I would ask your school to check that it isn’t a scam.

i got the same thing & my grades are not even that impressive. probs a scam.

i got it too. its a useless waste of time. its a scam. they try to get u to come to DC and meet with other “leaders”. basically, if youve got lots of money, this is the place to blow it.

I don’t think it’s a scam but i won’t say it worth the money either. I got something simlar and although it did come in very elaborate packaging, i still didn’t seem worth it. I won’t say you shouldn’t go but i won’t say it’s anything extremely special.

^ what he said

It’s not a scam, in the sense. I know people who have gone and enjoyed it.

However, it’s not really prestigious, and a lot of people get the invitation. So it’s probably a waste of money.

I get things like that all the time. They say the same form, which is funny because I am chosen to “represent my highschool” when I’m the only student in my highschool (I’m homeschooled).

I got an invitation last year L0L.
Don’t go. I agree with generallyrong.

hahahaha

Adcoms laugh when they see kids have attended summer things like this… They’re by no means selective, by no means prestigious, and by no means worth it.

But if you have money to burn and have nothing better to do for a few weeks during the summer, then by all means, attend ;)

“Adcoms laugh when they see kids have attended summer things like this…”

not really. it’s better than sitting home & doing nothing.

not a scam, but a waste. I take pleasure in throwing them away = D.

Not that amazing but its a legit program (no scam). Some people said it was worth it; others said it was okay, depends really.

Yes it is a scam, and yes you wasted a lot of time typing that out.
