Am I the only one without a 4.0 in major classes?

Seriously guys, you are making me worry! ):

I have a 3.67 GPA in my major classes(Although I expect to get an A in my last pre-req, raising the major GPA to 3.75). You’re not alone. ;)

You have no reason to worry, though. A 4.0 major GPA is nice but I doubt most people have those. UCLA(The only UC I know of that actually considers major GPA) cares more about overall GPA more.

What major are you? :slight_smile: For my major theres only 3 prereqs that I could take at my school so its pretty easy that way to get a 4.0 gpa.

Right before submitting my applications I switched my major for UCLA from Econ to Business Econ when I got a B in Financial Accounting so… You’re not the only one.

Kind of thinking I should have just kept with Econ, but oh well.

@Mik194

I’m a philosophy major. For philosophy, I have to complete 4 pre-reqs. In an ancient philosophy class, I earned a “B.” It has haunted me ever since, lol.

@Gunnnn

I imagine switching to Biz Econ won’t make much of a difference in regards to what you’ll learn and what kind of business opportunities would be open to you. Or does it matter a lot?

@cayton but major prereqs arent required to be completed for your major correct?

I’m a Sociology major with a 4.0 major GPA but I’ve only taken 4 classes in my major.

How much emphasis does UCLA put on major GPA?

@Mik194

No, I don’t have to complete all of them for transfer, but it’ll definitely increase my chances of transfer to UCLA. I’ll have completed my last pre-req when this semester is over.

@Matt4200

I don’t know, but I imagine the order of priority goes something like this:

completion of Pre-reqs > GPA > major GPA.

I’m pretty sure that the only thing changing to Biz Econ did was decrease my chances of getting in because of the hit that my major GPA takes because of the B. Regular Econ doesn’t require accounting.

@Gunnnn

That’s unfortunate. What’s your GPA and major GPA?

Not including this semester, 3.85 overall and 3.81 major.
If I manage to get a 4.0 this semester it’ll be 3.91 overall and 3.84 major. The B really hit me hard.

I think if you get a 4.0 this semester you’ll be fine.

A 3.91 GPA is around the average for admitted business econ majors.

I’m an English major, well except for UCLA I’m an American Literature and Culture major.

My overall GPA is higher than my major GPA. I know UCLA is like the only one that considers it into the admissions process - but Cayton is right, the overall GPA is more important into the decision making process.

That and prereqs.
