I just recently received an email about Questbridge, and I'm kind of interested. I made an appointment with my guidance counselor but she is not exactly the best. I was just wondering if this is something I should consider applying to. My mom has stage 4 cancer and is on disability so between her and my dad I think our income is around $60000 (maybe slightly more). In spite of this I work about 30 hours a week at a McDonald's and I started and am president of a cancer awareness club that's raised thousands of dollars and done many educational activities. We've been in the local newspaper many times. I also play basketball and am interning with a Breast cancer foundation out of providence. I get straight A's, am at the top of my class, and although I haven't taken sats yet I am aiming for 2100. However, I'm white and my parents both went to college. Should I bother applying?

bump…

White male here. I’m first generation, and I got matched with Trinity this year. I don’t think that’s the key to a nice financial aid package, however.

Medical bills were a significant expense for my family too, although I can’t imagine it’s anything close to your position. Emphasizing your struggles and how they block/have blocked your options for college will probably docyiu well for QB. I don’t think your second generation applicant status will hurt you too significantly; just try your best to get good scores and show what kind of person you are.

Hope your apps go well.
