So I really need financial aid but my parents’ incomes don’t really show that. My mom makes $69,000 a year and apparently my dad makes around $200,000 (!!) However, they are divorced and spend over 2/3 of the year with my mom. She also always complains that my father never pays for anything and he is no longer paying child support for my older brother. They are supposed to split our finances half and half, but my dad is irresponsible so if I need something, it’s kind of up to my mom. My dad works across the country so we only have one car. My older brother and only sibling is autistic and has severe gastrointestinal problems- he takes over 20 pills a day. But he throws them away secretly and has been rushed to the emergency room many times. His appendix burst in 2012 and it took doctors 8 trips to the ER and more than 3 months to realize. He spent a month in the hospital and my parents are still paying that off. I work, am in varsity sports, haven taken 8 APs, and have a GPA over a 4.0 (I’ll get my official GPA next week along with my class rank). I have not been able to take the SAT or ACT because of lack of transportation and time during my junior year. I AM SO SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW HONESTLY IF YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE A CHANCE? I am a white female. Thank you so so so so much in advance!!!
Questbridge won’t work for you. Just your Mom’s income is too high but they look at both parent’s income anyway. You should look at some of the schools with guaranteed merit scholarships like University of Alabama assuming your test scores come out high enough.
@gokingsgo1999 I have to respectfully disagree with above poster. I believe you have a shot mainly because of your brother’s severe health issues and your dad not supporting you guys. If you can talk about how these circumstances impacted you great. I am applying to QB too, but I thought it was only right to give you my two cents, even if its more competion for me lol good luck!
“Should I apply to Questbridge?”
“My mom makes $69,000 a year and apparently my dad makes around $200,000”
No.
Your mother makes too much to be considered lower income or working class.
Your stats are good so far, make sure to prepare every day for the sat (khan academy website).
Also make sure you include colleges that do not require Non Custodial parent income - head to the financial aid forum for ideas.
Um, no. The first test for QB is income. The OP doesn’t pass that. End of story.
