I am a Georgia high school student with a 3.3 GPA, 4 AP's, 1310/1880 SAT, 28 ACT

looking for affordable (or at least good with aid), preferably southern schools with rich academics, student life (cool college town please?) and study abroad programs.

My list includes: UGA, LSU, Auburn, Georgia State, Appalachian St., FSU, Berry College

I am not opposed to going out of state for school the school just needs to be a little more affordable than most.

If you are looking for schools that will give you need-based financial aid, why do you have out of state publics like Auburn, FSU, etc on your list?

Those schools don’t give need-based aid to out of state students to cover their high out of state costs. OOS publics (expect for UVA and UNC) don’t give their very limited financial aid to non-residents. They can’t afford to. They need every dime to help their own residents.

Is that your weighted GPA that is on your transcript?

LSU and Miss St may give you a merit scholarship. Your GPA is too low for merit at Auburn (they require at least a 3.5).

Don’t you have HOPE in GA? If you go out of state, you lose that.

How much will your parents pay each year?

If they’ll pay a decent amount, there might be some other schools we could recommend.

I understand my whole financial aid situation. I do have the HOPE, but I put Auburn and FSU on my list because I am and football fan and a semi-legacy for Auburn and FSU has many of my majors and I love Florida. Plus, there might be a way around paying OOS tuition because we own property in Florida but I’m not going to bank on that considering how tough most schools are on that…

I do qualify for scholarship at Auburn (they have told me so), but it is only 5 grand a year. Not enough.

My parents have said they will pay a decent amount every year, but I am more than willing to get a job to help in any way possible with the costs.

3.34 is my weighted GPA as of last year. I only took 1 AP last year, and I am taking 3 this year. Senior year grades are pretty good too, 3 A’s and 3 B’s.

The reason I have looked at so many out of state schools is because I am a long shot (In my opinion) for UGA (1st choice), but I am not a fan of going to schools like Ga Southern or GCSU because there is nothing to do in those towns but party. My in-state choices are pretty limited. I only have Berry, Georgia State and MAYBE Kennesaw St., but I will transfer into UGA after a year or so at each of those schools.

Good. Don’t bank on it because if it were that easy everyone would do it. You will have to pay OOS rates at Auburn and FSU. Staying in-state and transferring to UGA makes a lot of sense.
