I said on my common app that I was going to self study for 2 ap exams - Micro and Macroecnomics - and take the exams this May for college credit, but after being accepted to Northwestern ED and realizing its arts and sciences school would only take one of the two exams as credit for its distributions requirements, I’m thinking to just focus on microeconomics so I would have a better chance of gaining a 5 (and thus gain credit)
Would the admissions office care if I said I will take these 2 exams but will really take only 1? Would they think I was lying? Or does it really not matter since I’m already accepted?
But if the OP takes the exams or not is never even communicated to the admissions office – ever. Only if/when the OP requests credit/advanced standing for high AP scores, is this even relevant. There is no concern from the admissions perspective
Contact the admissions office and let them know of your plans to only take the one that you will get credit for. Save yourself the expense of the second test.
I decided to just contact the admissions office since there’s a lot of different advice posted on here, and I’d rather not risk getting in trouble for not informing them of the changes.
You are not going to get into any trouble for not taking either of the exams. Lots of students don’t take them for any number of reasons - especially when the students get in places ED and then find out that they’d need a 5 in order to get credit or placement.
Save your time, trouble, and money, and skip one (or both) if you feel like it.
You are NOT going to get in trouble for not taking either of the exams. They don’t care. Many students don’t.
I agree with the adults who said to save time, trouble, and money : skip both.
