Change on Academic Record -- From AP Econ to just Econ

Hi CC,

I'm currently enrolled at Oxford College at Emory, and I have a question about a potential academic record change I may be facing. During my senior year, I took an AP Economics course (which combined both Macro and Micro Economics), which I listed in my Fall transcript; however, I opted not to take the AP Micro or Macro Economics exams, seeing as how a) I've chosen other AP's to take the credit for to fit Oxford's limit on AP credits, and b) I have plans to re-take Economics in college, as I did not feel fully prepared by my AP Economics course.

I recently found out that my high school is not in favor of students taking AP courses but not taking the test. Therefore, they've said that they may decide to not give me the credit for AP Econ, meaning that it would show as simply regular "Economics" on my transcript. I'm curious as to how this change would be viewed by my college. I hope that I can convince my high school not to make that change, but if they do, would my admission to Oxford be at risk?

Thanks for any help guys!

Hate to bump this guys, but I’m really worried about getting rescinded. Any thoughts on what may happen?

They probably won’t even notice.

You’re school would do that? That’s mean… Try to argue and keep it from being changed. You shouldn’t have to be forced to take a test

Yeah I agree, they shouldn’t be able to do that. I think it’s perfectly reasonable not to take the test, especially with how expensive they are (or were back in my day) and considering your reasons for not taking it. Good luck!

I’m inclined for you to tell your school to stuff it.

Wisdom would say just to smile and nod, however. Ask about the transcript but stand firm. Skip the exam.

Not taking the AP exam won’t affect you a bit at Emory. They are glad to have you. Congrats.
