amazing body improvements

I actually do run outside, like 1-2 miles with my dad. I've seen improvement in that I can run logner, and I have much better endurance, but no physical change.

Run with sprints.

Like sprint 100m, jog\walk 50, etc., or something?

Jog 2-3 minutes, sprint for 30-45 seconds. Do normal running distances (3-4) but with sprinting as fast as you can during those intervals. It's really hard (if you won't be lazy on sprints) but useful, we did that in wrestling.

i think he wants to gain some muscle mass. for that he can't just do cardio, he needs to lift

Ok thanks, I'll try that next time I go for a jog (prob. a few months ) :)

Yes, I do wanna gain muscle mass, and lose some fat around abdomen?
I have a set of 10lb dumbells, but never really used them. Do you think these would be ok?

you'll probably need heavier ones, i'm a pretty weak (upper-body wise) girl and when i had to lift for swimming i used 10lb weights

I can bet you're probably stronger than me :)

I have no idea- how about 20s?

haha i doubt it.

yeah 20s would probably be good you might want to start with 15s or something just go to the store and see what you can do like 8-10 reps with (getting really tired by 6-8)

er... maybe i shouldnt be giving advice about lifting see as i suck at it. lol

ChaosTheory - You should definitely start out with 10s. I was 5'10" and weighed around 130 in 9th grade but I could hardly curl (biceps) 15's. If you want to dumbell press though you'll probably need more - 20 and upwards depending on how developed your pecs are. If you're really serious about working out I recommend finding a gym - it's probably less costly than buying all the equipment yourself in the long run.

I'm a rising junior, 5'10" and 155 lbs. I'm actually aiming to gain weight. I saw Bastian Schweinsteiger shirtless in the Germany Portugal 3rd place match of the WC and I decided I wanted to look like that. Schweinsteiger just happens to be 5'10", and he weighs about 170 so that's my goal. My supercharged metabolism won't let that happen though-I can't seem to get past 155 no matter how much I eat =(. I can curl 25, bench 150 and squat 270, so I think I'm well on track in terms of exercize.

I still can't run for my life though (I can hardly do a 10 minute mile) and I'd be glad to take tips on increasing my endurance.

You can squat 270, bench 150, and only curl 25?

gzhang - Thanks for the tips, I'll probably try to join a gym, if not, I'll just use my dumbells and build upwards from there, if I think they are too light.
I actually improved my mile time by a lot. I think I went from 10:15 to 9:30 to 8:30, fairly quickly. My first one was in 7th grade, at the end of the year. Over that summer, I started running a little, not anything much, maybe a mile or two for 3 days a week. So then I got my 9:30 at the beginning of the year in 8th grade, and I still continued to run, but less, maybe 2-3 days a week max. Then finally I got 8:30.

I bet if you just ran around, which you would probably do more than me considering that you already work out, you could easily get your endurance up.

How does one get huge arms? Not biceps, but forearms. What kind of exercise do yo do for that? My forearms are like sticks, maybe some muscle of them would be good :p

hold on to heavy stuff if you want big forearms

I've heard that if you squeeze like a tennis ball or a small pillow, your forearms will get stronger. I also want my forearms to get stronger so if anyone has more tips...post them!

magicmonkey-
25 on each arm. People's biceps tend to be weaker than the combined strength of their upper body or legs/glutes, and I'm not really an exception.

The only forearm exercize I know involving weights is the reverse bicep curl, which is basically a bicep curl except you're grabbing the dumbell from the top instead of the bottom. I think it works better with a bar.

I went from an 8:18 mile to a 5:36 mile in a couple of years. My half mile is 2:32, which dropped down a lot from before. Being on the track team really helped...we did interval training and distance runs.

ChaosTheory- I really think you aren't getting enough protein. Protein is ESSENTIAL in getting stronger, and unless you are eating a LOT of beans/peanut butter or something else, you're probably not getting enough. I think you should consider eating chicken or something, as well as lifting weights.

I've been thinking about eating chicken, do you think its worth giving up being vegeterian for? Are there any cons to eating it? And in what form do you recommend it, being most healthy?

Yeah, often I feel like I have no energy at all, like I could barely get up the stairs??? Maybe being veg. doesn't work out for me?

Oh, so that's where it goes. In fact, being vegeterian isn't healthy at all, not considering that your muscle won't grow. Humans were adopted to eat meat (and weren't adopted to eat McDonalds) so yes, it maybe the case.
Try eating simple meat, such as beef and see how your organism reacts.

"I've been thinking about eating chicken, do you think its worth giving up being vegeterian for? Are there any cons to eating it? And in what form do you recommend it, being most healthy?"

Are there any pros to being a vegetarian? :P

I'm ok with it, but my parents probably won't be ;) What should I say to them.

Welllll lets see... your food is green?
