school & stayin in shape

so how do u guys stay in shape? in middle school it was so easy since i had a lot of free time to work out. i usually worked out 4 to 5 times a week for an hour. but after enterin high school i had to reduce it to 3 times a week and cut off a lot of junk. sometimes i can't seem to find enough time to run 3 times...i'm currently a sophomore takig 3 aps and 4 honors (all my teachers give homework like mad cus my school is really tough). i am in the school's track and field (i run 2 times a week after school). Everyday i have at least 8 homework (and usually they r long) and besides that i'm running a club (which i'm the president, i have to work very hard since it's mostly run by students...we meet twice a week for an hour but i have to dedicate another 2 extra hours to prepare for meetings, events, etc.), doing community service (i'm workin w/ 2 organizations during weekends or fridays raising money or visitin them), takin German (i dedicate like 3 hours a week after school), i m also in another club which require to stay after school on fridays from 4 to 6 or 7. I love all the extracurriculars that i'm doin but they r very time-consumin. I eat like twice a day. small portion of vegetables and fruits with a sandwich in the afternoon and a normal meal for dinner.

so how much do u guys eat? how much do u exercise? i'm normal, i wasnt born w/ that blessed high metabolism so stayin size 4 is hard. also i hav a mom who lives in the gym everyday...like 8hrs per day so she never buys me clothes that passes size 4. she would force me to drop out of my extracurriculars if i ever gained weight (and no, she doesnt cares about college. she's more obsessed with my body image...in short words she used to be the typical stuck-up in high school...i received the nerd genes from my dad). plus my boyfriend gives me a lot of piggyback rding and it would be EXTREMELY embarassin if i gained weight and...u kno.

and by the way, sorry if i deviated from the subject by listin my extracurriculars...i just wanted to give a clear description of how much time i had for exercise.

Does your school have a workout room? If it does, everyday go down there after school right away and work out for an hour. Don't talk with friends, don't screw around, just get your work in. I've found if you do anything before working out, you'll always find an excuse not to. You'll be to tired, have too much homework, etc.

I run 5x a week, lift 4x a week. No pop, candy, cookies, etc., but I eat all the pizza and cheeseburgers I want. It works fine for me.

wow. you and your family sound immature. and you should eat more that just 2 meals a day.

Why? I only eat 1.5 meals a day and I'm completely fine. As long as that 1 meal is healthy, I'll be ok.

Tell your mom to grow up. Then run more. Running only twice a week is the kind of training you do in the middle of the summer, when it's 95 degrees outside and you're on vacation a thousand miles away from home.

i run 7 days a week. but if i have a lot of work i limit myself to a half hour, which at my normal pace is a tad over 4 miles. when i don't have much to do i run for an hour, which is 8 miles.

Tae Kwon Do 4-5 days a week works for me. I eat garbage and still have good physique.

I walk home 2 miles a day (downhill though). My school is also built on a hill, so I have to do a lot of walking up and down steps.

I really skimmed your post, but you're clearly overboarding on everything if you can't find time to exercise/play sports daily.

Wow, all of you run so much and eat so little...

Now my stuff:

I don't like running, and I don't just "run", but I play basketball, tennis, soccer (sometimes for the lulz), ice hockey, badminton, volleyball...anything with my friends. I don't play anything at a very competitive level, in the sense that I'm not in a team, but I'm athletic, especially at basketball/tennis. Also for my cardio, I swim once in a while, which is like once...in 3 months.

I lift about 5x a week, used to be low weight high reps, but now I'm slowly reversing that cycle (didn't want to start too heavy, but I'm a sophomore so it should be okay now). I shouldn't be listing stuff like benching, squats since I assume with an sn like monkeygirl, hopefully you aren't looking forward to become a professional bodybuilder with a 500 deadlift.

Other than that, push-ups, crunches, sit-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, etc. I'm fairly close to six pack abs again, I lost it entirely during the summer lol.

Nutrition: anything I want, but I eat a lot - never skip any meals. It seems like I get mostly carbs/protein (I try to get a lot of protein), but any type of food is great. I'm not a big fan of junk food anymore, but I load up on candy/chocolate/chips if I have to (like the three days after Halloween I think I ate a year's worth of junk food). Soda occasionally, like a couple times a week.

There are mixed opinions on this but...
whenever i lift weights, i always have a protein shake to help rebuild the muscle but if you are very desperate, you can drink them as a "meal replacement." There are some healthier protein shakes like Pure Protein which i started with but then graduated from them lol.

What's your 1rm Invoy?

For what, though? Bench/Squat/Dead...etc?

I drank a protein shake a couple of times, but I really didn't like it lol. I eat a protein bar sometimes, but not usually.

STF U NOT FUNNY

Anyways, I just mean all of the ones you wanna tell me. Doesn't really matta.

Um, well, I've only recently started stuff so like, bench around 160 (I know, but I'm 15...that's not that horrible for my age), squat like 185, deadlift like 160...haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

Oh wait, 1rm, huh...calculateformula = 230ish, 265ish respectively. 1rm's aren't really that accurate though, my max reps change daily and etc.

My numbers will be higher in a couple months, rofl, I got out of my lazy habits a couple weeks ago only.

How can you not find enough time to run?! A few miles take what, like half an hour or so? Who doesn't have half an hour to spare?!?!

Ok, well, my advice to (you) the OP would be to cut back on whatever junk food you might be consuming and to limit your diet to healthier things and to run for half an hour every day before you go to school.

Hmmm, and I personally run every so often (no schedule though, just when the fancy strikes -- same goes for any other boring, repetitive exercise) and hike a lot, and eat very little red meat and plenty of fruits and veggies, as well as all the other components of a balanced diet.

But who likes running? I'm surprised that all of you enjoy running and just go for a couple mile jogs...

And plus my miletime is pretty darn slow anyways, 6:30ish. Hence I'm not in XC...

Mmkay, Invoy. writes that down Thx for your participation.

Invoyable
I'd kill for a 6:30 mile. lol

Then again, I don't try to hard anyways.

I actually enjoying running. I'm not on any of the track/cross country teams though. I don't run as much as I'd like to.

I have ballet 4 days a week. Sometimes I run, but I'm not very committed to it. I do 60 crunches a day, but my main at home exercise is my stretches. I can't do much now b/c I hurt my left leg, but I still work on butterfly, splits, straddles, plank, etc. Ballet takes care of all of my exercise needs.
I don't eat very much and I eat pretty healthfully. My parents have never bought pop or candy unless there's a holiday or a party. And I don't eat much fast food, just Chipotle. I dance at a University so I've become really addicted to going to all the cheapo places nearby.

Once upon a time, I ran a mile in 4 minutes and 43 seconds. Although this sounds insane, you need to break 4:30 just to walk on to the team at Ivy
