Amazing Race 2023

At some point toward the beginning of the leg, teams will encounter a U-turn board. The cast their mandatory vote and continue racing. At the detour, there will be a board identifying the team that was voted to be u-turned.

I guess what was confusing to me about the mandatory U-turn is you used to only U-turn people behind you, right? If Steve and Anna Leigh are first wouldnā€™t that mean that they escape being U-turned? What if a team is far enough ahead to finish their detour before all the votes are in? Maybe Iā€™m remembering all wrong.

Thatā€™s the old u-turn of past seasons. With the mandatory u-turn, in theory everyone who arrives at the board from 2nd until the last could vote for the ffirst team.

Here, the teams vote, then proceed to do (as and example) a roadblock , and then arrive at a detour to find out if theyā€™ve been u-turned.

I guess they arrange the task so that no one can be way ahead. Thatā€™s what Iā€™m thinking. What if Iā€™m crushing it and at the mat with Phill when the last person votes. THEN Iā€™d have to go back and do a second task? That seems logistically difficult.

The problem was that they hadnā€™t had the discipline - but instead almost spend 10 seconds too many on the first task, way WAY past their self-imposed rule.

The vote comes early before the Detour, maybe even before the Roadblock, so that the U-turned team will be known at the time the first team gets to the Detour.

I just finished and listened to the wording again. Phil says the U-turn is sometime before the next leg of the race. So at the pit stop maybe?

It will be interesting to see who will be voted for the u-turn. I suspect many will have Steve/Anna Leigh on their mind. It sounded like Robbin and Chelsea might be a target too.

I was sad to see Joe and Ian go.

Yes it looks like everybody votes probably prior to the leg.

The dad and son team are still my favorite

Mine too. I think the son is just a very nice guy.

If I were toward the end and voting for the Uturn, Iā€™d vote for someone one or two spots above me. Uturning the first team might not help as they might be so far ahead that they can do both tasks before the middle of the group and back might even start one. Uturning the guys right in front of you might shoot your right past them.

LOL. Thatā€™s what I was thinking too. I have poor coordination skills and can barely dance even with nothing on my head :grinning:

It was amazing to see those ladies with 5 and 6 pots on their head look so graceful.

It looked like the women had actual ceramic pots on their heads, while the racers had metal ones, that may be used by beginners or children?

Also those metal pots werenā€™t as wide as the ones used by the women, which may have made them harder to balance on oneā€™s head?

I donā€™t think they would have made it harder for the contestants. I feel like the placement of the ā€œdonutā€ was a big factor.

The ā€œbig pictureā€ challenge was pretty cool too.

Iā€™m not surprised who was u-turned, but they really should have been more strategic.

Iā€™m sad who came in last; I really wanted to see more of their story.

Next week, it looks like manual transmission challenges in Germany

Wait ā€¦ youā€™ve seen this weekā€™s episode? Doesnā€™t even start here for 30 mins, though Iā€™m watching baseball.

Yup, already saw.

East coast/west coast. I get really mad when the cable feed is from the west coast so a show will start here at 11 (MT) rather than 10/9 central or 10 pacific. Sometimes I can get a grainy feed on my phone a little earlier.

I thought those of us central saw things at the same ā€œtimeā€ as East Coast but that it was an hour later there. If that makes sense. Itā€™s why they say ā€œ9 Eastern 8 Central.ā€ :woman_shrugging:t4:

How come?

Iā€™m in CA so, if I want to watch it live, I need to wait several hours. However, I read spoilers for Survivor and it looks like that will be my priority for tonight.
