AMC 12

I know that Caltech asks whether one took the AMC or not, but I took the test without much preparation and thus got a bad score (96). Is it necessary to put that on the application, or is it optional?

A 96 is not a bad score. I would definitely put it on, especially considering that you’re probably not a math person anyways.

I think 96 should have qualified you for the AIME, right? At least you could then prepare for the AIME and get a score for that?

No, for that particular test, the cutoff was 100, so I didn’t get to take the AIME, and by the time I take the AMC again next year and the AIME, I’ll have submitted my college applications and it’ll be too late
