Hi guys,
I wrote the AMC 12 in my junior year. Subsequently, I was ranked “1st” in my country for that particular exam of AMC 12. Also, I got the Distinguished honor roll certificate. How helpful is this achievement for college admissions? Does it add any extra weight to my application? How should I mention this achievement in the application?
It should be listed as an academic award. It’s a nice thing to have, but it’s not going to add a huge amount of weight.
It is a wonderful achievement and it will look great on your college applications. List it under the “Honors and Awards” category. Awards, grades and test scores are only a couple of the factors considered by highly selective schools, though. So having this makes you a stronger applicant, but it is not a “golden ticket” to get in.
Good luck!
Thanks for the response. I was wondering whether I should mention it as AIME qualifier or national first rank in AMC 12. Now I get the clarity.
Sounds like you didn’t take AIME, correct? “AIME Qualifier” would include a range of placements and scores - “DHR/Highest score in country” would be more descriptive and differentiating.
It’s an achievement worth noting and will be beneficial, though not at the level of AMO/MOP/IMO qualifier. There are a few thousand AIME qualifiers every year, but only 500 or so DHR, so it would put you in that grouping.
I did take the AIME and I got like a 6 or something. Did some really silly calculation errors on many questions.
So, what do I put on the application, “DHR” or “highest score in country” or both of them(I do not know if I can do both).
I forgot to mention @RichInPitt
Please answer the question.
You should write the scores. Ex: AMC-12 2019 score: 136, AIME 2019 score: 6
Highest rank in the country does not mean much, especially when the score is 6.
The scores indicate your math ability.
“So, what do I put on the application, “DHR” or “highest score in country” or both of them(I do not know if I can do both).”
I’m curious as to what type of limitations you are dealing with on the application where 28 characters is not possible.
Unless there’s some odd limitation, the above is fine, and I’d add “Top score in (country name)” for context.
No, I was just asking for the best way to present the achievement. Yeah, I get it now.
