AMC Significance

I just took the AMC for the last time before I apply to colleges next fall. I’ve done quite well on the AMC in the past (but that was the AMC’s 8 and 10), and this was my first time taking the AMC 12, and I didn’t do too well (I didn’t qualify for AIME).

I’ve heard that elite colleges actually have a space on their app for you to enter your AMC 12 score (they value it much more than your AMC 8 or 10 scores), but since I had no success on it, I don’t have much to enter in that section.

So my question is, how significant is the AMC?? Do colleges really value it if you do well enough to go to the AIME and beyond?
Is this a detriment to me being accepted into an elite school for Computer Science or Math??

Also is a great AMC score something that could really boost your app?

@johnjohn99 I know at least a few colleges have spaces where you can input AMC and AIME scores (MIT is an example).

If you feel your score is good (perhaps >= 85 or >= 90), then put it down. Otherwise, you don’t have to put it down, and it’s as if you had never taken the AMC.

Yes, a great AMC score can definitely help, and colleges will want to know if you’ve done well on that test.

^Unless you scored 105.0 on the 2016 AMC 12B.

Apparently I just heard from several sources that the cutoff for 12B is 106.5. (!)
