Amc

You're really not supposed to be discussing the test, scores, problems, etc.

13-2 = 96 (so close...) I will hopefully be taking the 12B exam in two weeks.

Can anyone tell me more about this test? I'm signed up to take it Feb. 16th and I'm not quite clear what it is and what it does for you.

we're not discussing problems... just what scores we got. that has absolutely no bearing on how well anyone who hasn't taken it does

ok, it's a 25 problem test (you can find practice ones on the amc site). the problems get increasingly harder as the test goes on. you get 6 pts for getting one right, 2.5 for leaving one blank, and 0 for getting one wrong. it's multiple choice, but it is in your best interest to do 13-17 problems or so (can do a minimum of 11 if you're sure you've got them all), because people who score 100 or more get to take the AIME, a much harder non-multiple choice test. I don't know where it goes from there though.

You're not supposed to be discussing difficulty, either. If I say that I got 150, and people know that I'm bad at geometry, which is possible, then they'll assume that there aren't any hard geometry problems, and they'll go studying stuff like, say, probability.

+15 -2 = 90 + 20 = 110

w00t!

amc 12 was easy as hell

+13 -3 = 100.5 phew that was close :P
i think i got the lowest possible score to move on

i screwed it up really bad
99.5

who on earth studies for the amc? no one. or at least they shouldn't. wouldn't do any good. and none of us said we were terrible at something, did we? and how it's possible that there wouldn't be difficult questions in a subject is beyond me... w/e. you don't have to participate in this board if you don't want to.

just realized if I played it right I would've answered one more question... oh well.

133.5 (+21, -1)

Many people on this planet called Earth study for the AMC. And when we say "study," we mean learning mathematical topics that aren't taught in high school but generally appear on the AMC competitions.

I disagree that studying wouldn't do any good. Taking a practice test/ reading the Art of Problem Solving books REALLY helps. ie. I went from a score of less than 90 on the AMC-10 to like 115 on the AMC-12 in one year, by only taking 4 or 5 practice tests and reading. So, I essentially moved up 25 pts in 2 days. Studying does help.

firebird... wow, that's pretty impressive.

Really, wow Firebird. Have you made USAMO yet? With that kind of score, you could get around a 5 or 6 on the AIME and still make it.

Not really, since AMC + 10 * AIME has to be around 220. Firebird would still need an 8 or a 9 to make it.

of course it helps to study for the AMC exams. They heavily involve topics like number theory and combinatorics that are not part of the usual curriculum. They also tend to mix subjects in one problem which is not what you usually see in your homework. So practice and familiarity with the type of problems to be asked will make a big difference.

(+23, -0) --> 143... did anyone actually get #25? i left 21 and 25 blank

Nice. I got 132.5. I found 21 quite easy. I did 25 today, but I got it wrong.

tsr...21 was the EASIEST question on the test! lol, u still did WAAAAY better than me hahaha.
