American Citizen Obtaining Masters in Foreign Language Abroad, Any Scholarships?

I have read the forum "start here" pages and my case is a little unusual, so I am not sure if anyone has experience with this.

I am an American citizen. I am about to start a MA in Arabic Language at a public university, Qatar University. I have checked out their scholarships, and they are largely specific to Qatari citizens or special master degrees. I am not eligible in either case. Because it will be for Arabic, I have to ask, are there any special scholarships for American citizens studying in full-time graduate programs abroad that I can apply for before the program starts in September?

Fulbright.

I do not want to be super rude here, but I also know what the Fulbright is for. Fulbright is not in Qatar (on their official list), a Critical Language scholarship is part of a full Fulbright grant, which requires I am in an authorized country. It also does not cover a full grad degree, as far as I can tell. I do not have a research topic yet; I have not started grad school, so no topic as I just pointed out.

Am I missing something more specific from your comment, or was it sarcastic?

Fullbright is just about it for funding for studies abroad. The other biggies (Rhodes, Watson, etc.) are tied to specific institutions. If the university that you plan to attend is not offering any aid, and the faculty at your undergrad college have no suggestions, then there may be nothing available.

You might look at Rotary Club scholarships. They have a wide and long standing program for international studies. They are in the middle of changing their scholarship program, but it looks like they are trying to be more flexible, which might be a good thing. You go through a local Rotary club, but you do not need to be connected to a Rotary club to be eligible.

Boren Fellowship.
