American Cultures Requirement from CCC

I am completing TOOLS at the moment, and when viewing the list of community colleges that offer a course which satisfies the AC requirement, mine is not listed; but my CCC offers, and I have completed, the same courses which are listed for other CCC as being able to satisfy the AC requirement.

Will the courses at my CCC (HIST 7A, among others) be able to satisfy the requirement, even though it is not explicitly listed nor is there any course articulation from assist.org from my CCC to UCB for the AC requirement?

If the courses I have taken do not satisfy the AC requirement, will I have any success in petitioning the requirement? (I plan on double majoring PoliSci/Rhetoric, so I have little room for excess courses)

I took History 7A & 7B at Merritt College, but the articulated course (7B) is listed under Berkeley City College agreement not Merritt. Does this mean that I will have to take another AC class at Cal that fulfills this requirement?

I am confused, anyone can clarify this for me?

I see that History 7B at Berkeley is an AC course. I took a course with the same course number at another college. Does this count for AC credit?

It only counts if the course is listed as one of the approved courses at other colleges that satisfy the AC requirement. If not, then you would need to petition the AC subcommittee to see if the course meets the criteria for AC. Unless the course meets very specific criteria outlined in the Academic Senate regulations, it probably doesn't satisfy the requirement.

Petition Process

In order to request the substitution of a course for AC credit, students must submit (1) the student petition form, (2) a letter written by the student explaining how the course fulfills the AC requirement, and (3) a copy of the course syllabus. Additionally, students may submit a letter from the instructor explaining how the course fulfills the AC requirement. The letter from the instructor is optional, but the letter from the student is required. .

1.

Make sure that all the blanks have been filled in on the petitioning form [pdf].

2.

The letter must explain how the course fulfills the AC requirement:
1. "Does the course address theoretical and analytical issues relevant to understanding race, culture, and ethnicity?" How?

2. "Is the course integrative and comparative within the larger context of American society, history, culture, economy, or environment?" How?

3. "Does the course take substantial account of groups drawn from at least three of the following: African Americans, indigenous peoples of the United States, Asian Americans, Chicanos/Latinos, and European Americans?" How is each group incorporated into the course?

American Cultures Petitioning

There is usually around 1 upper div AC course in each of those departments each semester. Though the problem may be that its not something you are interested in.
