I’m actually not a fan of this idea at all.

I think graduations are long enough by themselves, and there’s already enough going on that has nothing to do with anybody I know or care about. Had I been there, I’m sure I would have been thinking, “Couldn’t he just use the scoreboard at Nationals Park, like everybody else?”

Yes, I am a curmudgeon. I know.

I think everyone who was there was pretty tickled and wished the best for the couple–it just took a minute, and was probably a nice break from the boredom of the official ceremonies. The fact that the two fell for each other at freshman orientation makes the story particularly sweet and particularly well suited for a graduation proposal.

I was at the UNC Chapel Hill graduation and there was a proposal there as well. I really enjoyed being part of it. When we got back to the hotel, my daughter showed me the youtube video of the AU proposal and I enjoyed watching the clip. Maybe it is a male-female thing. The women (MommaJ and me) like it while the men (Sikorsky) do not.

I thought it was tacky and inappropriate.

(and I liked it! ;)) (I just wish it had been two guys or two gals.)

Of course, it could be just a Sikorsky thing. There’s a lot of stuff that everybody but me seems to like.

I’m with the other mamas! I thought it was terribly romantic, plus it got American University on the news in front of a national audience. :-)
