<p>My son got an email from the local AU admissions rep and met her at a local Panera on her swing through NJ.</p>
<p>as multitasker pointed out, they will do interviews but they are informational only and not part of the evaluation (except I suppose that it does demonstrate interest)</p>
<p>it wouldn’t hurt to do an interview if you are a confident speaker. here is what my counselor told me when i asked about doing an interview - if you’re a good participant in class discussions then you most likely will do great in an interview. Basically, if you are a great conversationist definitely go for an interview. :)</p>

<p>It’s a chance for you to ask questions, and for them to ask you some as well.</p>
<p>My daughter had an interview in November I think and she said it was more like a sales pitch than an interview. She didn’t get a chance to talk about herself much. But then again, AU is the only college that mentioned “interest points” to us when we called, so I guess D racked up some interest points.</p>
<p>Pretty much. AU definitely tracks applicant interest, and the AU interview is intended to give the applicant information about AU, and not so much the other way around.</p>
<p>From Hawaii, eh, AlohaTM? That’s got to appeal to east-coast colleges looking for geographical diversity.</p>
<p>We hope so!!! D wants to have an experience that is totally unlike Hawaii.</p>
<p>My D is ALSO looking for a different experience. Including different weather! (We are north of New York city and its been brutal this year.)</p>
<p>While in Washington your D would get some snow, we in the Metro NYC area are waking to our 8th storm --and this one includes freezing rain ALL day. </p>
<p>So American is looking very attractive to my D vs. State schools from more than an academics POV (check out SUNY Binghamton weather if your D wants some REAL change!) </p>
<p>Of course either way, I’ sure your D will be able to argue for a whole new wardrobe. I’m guessing folks from Hawaii do not think of dressing in layers…</p>

<p>Brie99, you guessed right, it’s 78 degrees and sunny outside today in Hawaii so we only think in one layer… or less. 
My D also only saw American and other East Coast colleges in the summer time. Looking at the winter storm you are all suffering there… I don’t know how my daughter will cope but that is certainly all part of the “experience.” I guess I’ll have to start asking this forum for the best places to shop in DC for an entire wardrobe!</p>
