Daughter rejected by mail today….she got out of it what she put into it. It was an impulse to apply and she showed them no love. And she is fine with it…I am sorry for those who wanted to be admitted and didn’t get good news
Waitlisted today in the mail. I posted my stats and stuff on the other thread for those who are curious. What a crazy time this whole college process has been. I can’t wait until it is over! Congrats to everyone who got in and to those who didn’t, we should all eat pizza!
@premature_gray That is obnoxious of AU but a definite possibility. I took a look at their common data set and the ACT composite of the 75% percentile is a 30. Offering me zero aid and making me a sort-of-student for a semester is not going to make me want to go to American. Another thing I saw on their common data set is that they weigh interest heavily in the admissions process, which is something I could have worked on.
The Washington Mentorship Program actually seems kind of cool, since you get an internship your freshman year. But I don’t like the idea that the kids in it would in a different program than the rest of the school. I don’t want to be a second-class-citizen at the college I choose. It seems like a nice opportunity but at the same time, if AU is going to the lengths of signing us up for classes, housing us on campus, and getting us internships, why can’t we just be regular students? Looks like AU is not getting my money (or lack thereof).
@ancientmali I am sorry to hear this, and you’ve identified a critical factor - the relationship between interest and yield is strong. I see that you are/were in the running for Pitt’s Chancellorship? My D was also accepted to the Honors College at Pitt and for the right person, who has energy and cojones (!), the Honors College at Pitt can be a spectacular choice. My first son was a candidate for the Chancellorship (didn’t get - went elsewhere). Pitt’s Honors College Dean is fully committed to making opportunities for the students who come to him with interesting study/research plans. He will tap Pitt’s deep and far-flung connections to make that plan to come to fruition. We know a Pitt Fulbright student and another student who created a terrific research study plan that Pitt helped to make happen. If you are that type of person, Pitt is it. Oh, and Pittsburgh is a fantastic city. Very best wishes for the future~~~
@premature_gray
Thank you so much! That’s good advice-I really liked Pitt! I didn’t get the Chancellor’s Scholarship, but I got the full tuition scholarship, so I’m definitely still considering Pitt. I really liked the atmosphere of the school…it seemed to have a lot of opportunities for those who are willing work for them. Everyone was very nice and of course the Cathedral of Learning is gorgeous!
DS accepted into the Washington Mentorship Program with full student status beginning Spring 2016 as well. No merit or grants.
still no email or mailed package for me in NJ
ive been freaking out for the past week thinking i got rejected because myau account doesnt work for me. has anyone received an acceptance letter but was/is not able to access their account??
^ yes, that his been stated multiple times in this thread.
My son was offered admission at American University. He received a large packet via snail mail Friday, March 20th. I don’t believe he was notifed over email. Good luck you all!
Hi I’ve been accepted in to American University! I’m choosing between American University and Syracuse University. I haven’t had the chance to visit American yet, but does anyone have any special opinions or reasons why I should choose American over Syracuse? Haha I’m having a hard time deciding
I was also accepted into the Washington Mentorship Program. Kinda sucks that there is no aid for these students. I did not show AU much love though so I’m fine with it. Happy to say I will most likely be attending UNC Chapel Hill or Duke university in the fall! Congrats to all those accepted!
@prettycoolright what do you want to major in? My overall opinion is that American is better.
@prettycoolright i live near Syracuse. It is a major party school and the kids that go there seem to go for the social/sports scene. Definitely not as big of a political school.
Just got the mail…still nothing from American. Safe to assume I was rejected?
i would not assume that.
@prettycoolright As others have mentioned, depends on what you want to study and get out of a college.
Got my rejection letter today in North Jersey and I’ll admit I’m stunned. I visited the campus last year, went to the college visits at my high school, stayed in contact with my admissions counselor, got two really good teachers to write recommendations for me, I’ve taken AP courses and gotten 4’s and 5’s on the tests, got a really good letter from my counselor, 1990 single score SAT, 29 single score ACT all without tutoring/first time, post-liver transplant survivor, hired a dedicated tutor to help me with my supplemental essays til they were perfect, I did consistent community service with my local church, work 15 hours a week as a swim instructor and lifeguard, did Model UN and Youth and Government, play the drums and did band… Holistic approach my ass. Got in to Tulane and the GMU Honors college, waiting on GW this Friday but I guess I shouldn’t be hopeful for that now. Maybe my status as a white male was my downfall for this diversity-driven school.
Oh well, good luck to everyone who got in and sorry for my rant!
Waitlisted but got a likely letter from GW…
I just got my letter today in CT and I was waitlisted. Like the person before me, I am pretty surprised. 2180 sat, high honors every year, all ap’s this year, top 5% of my class, lots of volunteer work, job at an after-school program, what I thought was a good essay, presumably 3 really good recs, outdoor track for four years, etc. I even got into the second round for the honors program and the FDDS. However, I did kind of blow off those applications and didn’t show any interest other than going to one reception they held near me. Maybe that was my issue.
Anyways, I received hefty scholarships and invitations to the honors programs at Tulane, Temple, St. John’s, and UConn, got a likely letter from GW, and I am still awaiting decisions at NYU, UPenn, and Emory, so I’m not going to get too upset over this. Probably won’t be putting myself on the waitlist.
Congratulations to everybody who got in and good luck to those who are still waiting!
