I was accepted for Spring 2015 and for the Washington Mentorship Program for Fall. The packet says there were only 1,600 spaces for 16,000 applicants, which I don’t think can be accurate. 10% acceptance rate? I don’t think so.
@mullaneyj6 1,600 spaces refers to the number of applicants they intend to have accept their offer. So they probably accepted closer to 6,000 applicants (rough estimate), but they expect that around 1600 of those acceptances will actually enroll for the next year. According to US News, their acceptance rate is 43%
Has anyone been able to log on to the portal but received a rejection letter? I can log on, but nothing under financial package or housing. No congratulations either.
I’m from CT as well and got waitlisted. 2110 SAT, 33 ACT and also second round for the honors program. Not sure if they had too many applicants from CT or what but this is surprising.
My daughter got waitlisted - after making it to the second round of honors - 31 Act and visiting school 2x.
I don’t understand. She also got into other schools on this level and above with money. I am at a loss
@mullaneyj6 they actually accept 2-4x the number of spaces available to get to their yield of 1,600 - most who are accepted do not attend school like American. The top 15 schools get >50% yields, but not in tiers below that, for the most part.
Just got waitlisted. I’m guessing it was yield protection, but I’m kind of stumped? I visited campus, talked to a representative at a college fair and I’ve been on their mailing list for a while now. 2270 SAT, 34 ACT and 3.92 UW GPA, 4.46 W.
Congrats to everyone who got in.
Daughter was able to create log on but was wait listed.
Like everyone else I was surprised to be wait listed, 2070 sat 91 gpa, 9 APs and honors throughout HS, great EC’s, visited campus, cousin and his wife went to AU, and I wrote very good supplements. Considering AU was my 4th or 5th choice and I probably wasn’t going to get a lot of merit money, I’m already over it.
I’m surprised at the people AU has rejected or waitlisted. I have a friend at my school who also applied and who didn’t get in who is higher in class rank and has a higher GPA than I do with a basically identical courseload. I had “glowing” (according to AU) recommendations, solid test scores, decent essays, and good extracurriculars but I’m shocked that she wasn’t accepted above me, that just doesn’t seem holistic.
I’m in KY with a 35 ACT, 4.0, National Merit etc., and I was also waitlisted after applying to the second round of honors. My friend, who is smart, but doesn’t have my stats, did not make it in either. I’m beginning to wonder if I said something offensive in my application essay.
I don’t understand why applicants who were selected to apply to the honors program and make it to the second round would not be students they would want. These students obviously showed interest by writing all the additional essays that were required for the second round.
Waitlisted. I received my letter today. Last week, I was unable to access the student portal and anticipated this. 2200+ SAT, high GPA (top 2% of class), rigorous course load, interesting EC’s, and a Common App essay of which I am very proud. I just read over my supplements for American and I thought they were very specific and enthusiastic. I did find a few awkward, unnecessary sentences, but I can’t imagine these hurt my chances. I guess I will attribute my decision to yield protection…even though I had a great off-campus interview.
At this point, I am so bitter about the college admission process.
Just got my letter in CT and I was also waitlisted after having reached round 2 for both the Honors and Global Scholars program. 1970 SAT, top 5%, great EC, and amazing essays. I admit I’m surprised I wasn’t acceped but after having been accepted to some amazing schools American was no longer my first choice. I’m not too bothered and considering I wouldn’t have gotten a lot of financial aid I’ve already moved on lol.
I don’t understand. I did worst than a lot of people who have been rejected or waitlisted. My SATs are way below 1600 and I got in except I have to complete this STEP program to be admitted? Does anyone know about it?
have not received anything in the mail, does this mean I’m rejected? someone from my school already got their acceptance
@TheOne01 The Step Program helps with diversification at AU. From what I heard it is great.
Just saw on the AU Admissions Tumblr page that they had an acceptance rate of about 35% with over 16,000 applications. Pretty steep decrease from 43% (wondering if those rates include spring 2016 admits?) Really wondering what they were looking for this year, seeing all of these waitlists/rejections of clearly qualified students.
Just an update: I got an email saying I was accepted for spring semester. Not what I wanted but still excited!
33 act, 770 math 1, 800 math 2 (applied for a major in math), 3.5 UW GPA. waitlisted. well, seeing as a lot of other even more qualified applicants got waitlisted I don’t feel so bad, however I did expect to get in, especially after a friend of mine with a similar GPA and much lower scores (1500 SAT) got in with a 15k/year scholarship. Oh well, I didn’t really want to go here anyway haha. Congrats to those who got accepted and plan to attend and best of luck to those who absolutely deserved a spot and were not granted one - don’t worry, you’ll get into far more selective and prestigious schools and you will find success!
