American University Transfer Fall 2018

I didn’t see a thread for American University transfer students, so I thought I’d create one myself. It might help those who are still waiting as well as those who will be applying next year.

I was just accepted to AU last week. It was a long wait for me - around 3 months. I turned in my Common App in the middle of February and sent in all supporting materials by March 1. However, it is difficult to say when exactly you get your decision. A friend of mine got her decision only a month after applying.

Here are my stats:

  • College GPA: 4.0
  • Major: International Studies
  • Transferring from a FL community college
  • Applied with 51 credits; hope to have 65 by fall
  • UW HS GPA: 4.0 - but did not send my transcript
  • SAT: 1310 (m610/cr700) - but did not send my score

As a current community college student and a PTK member, I also got $10,000/year scholarship from AU.

Although I have not yet committed to American, I am very much leaning towards it. I am now just waiting for my transfer credit evaluation. I also visited the campus and absolutely loved it. Although it’s close to the center of DC, there is a true campus feel - which is something I liked more in AU than GWU.

Anyone else got their decision or still waiting? Anyone planning to enroll? If you got your decision, please share you stats for future applicants.

When are transfer decisions coming?

@NFerher they’re doing rolling admissions. So, there is no exact date for all decisions. But, as I’ve mentioned, I got my decision about two weeks ago, after three months of waiting. When did you apply?

My son applied a few months ago. He was told last year to reapply this year as they didn’t have room last year. He’s still waiting! It’s taken so long. Are you going to attend? He’s an international studies/relations major too.

Got my acceptance today through email! They aren’t giving me any financial aid at all because I didn’t submit the non-custodial parent agreement form before the deadline. I tried to submit it a couple of days ago but had some trouble with the application and when I called for help they said to not even submit the application because they have no more money to give out, they’ve already given all they have out? I’m going to try and call again on Monday because my mom only makes 30k a year and there is no way we can afford a 60k school. Has anyone else had trouble with this?

@NFerher some American applicants have been waiting for a very long time this year. I personally had to wait for over 3 months. Yes, hopefully, I will attend. American is still evaluating my transfer credits. As long as they accept at least 42 credits, I intend to attend. Hope it works our for your son! Best of luck!

@monaghalbi congratulations on your acceptance! Unfortunately, I am not sure about the financial aid… A friend of mine is currently appealing his financial aid decision as well. It’s been about a week since he sent in the appeal, and he is still waiting for AU’s response. Hopefully, they will provide you with a good financial aid package. I would think that they definitely should. Let us know how that goes =)

Hi all! I’m a transfer student attending AU this fall from NOVA community college.

I couldn’t find a FB page for transfer students… but I’d love to meet new people and talk about orientation? Would you all be interested in creating a Snapchat group? Add me to do so: x0azad

@kate0615 @monaghalbi

@brelove2 thank you for posting this! I’d love to meet new transfers as well… Someone should definitely create a FB page for AU transfers! I would have joined a Snapchat group, but I don’t have an account.

In any case, which orientation are you going to? I’m hoping to go the one in August. Anyone else?

Hi there, I’m a prospective transfer student for American but am still waiting to hear back. Did all of you receive your decisions through email or mail?

@ncook47 both me and my friend got our official decisions by mail. The AU prospective student portal was pretty much useless.

However, I had a deposit deadline due at another college, so I reached out to my admissions counselor a little early. She was kind enough to provide me with my decision via e-mail. Maybe try contacting your counselor as well?

By the way, I remember you from the GW thread… Sorry it didn’t work out for you. But at least that makes two of us! Hope you get into American! I will be heading there this fall

@Kate0615 I emailed them today and found out I was accepted! Hopefully I’ll see you around this fall.

@ncook47 that’s awesome! Congratulations!!! See you in the fall! Are you planning to attend the transfer student orientation on August 21?
