I'm not sure, still waiting on GWU's ESIA for admission. Got into SIS, but I'll see if ESIA accepts me whether or not they would match it. I highly doubt it though...

I'm having a similar situation; I didn't get into GW honors, but I got the $27000 scholarship to American plus a few thousand in loans, and I got $15000 in grants and $3500 in loans. I know the American scholarship was merit based, but I got around $26000-30000 or so from American, Boston U, and Macalester, but only $18500 from GW, when it's one of the most expensive schools in the US and is supposed to give good financial aid!

Same situation here. Son got into Elliott, honors and $15,000 per year at GWU. Double majoring in International Service and Computer Science at American, honors, and $27,000 scholarship. No need-based aid at either.

He didn't even bat an eyelash -- he just said he had expected that GW wouldn't give him as much, based on what we'd read here. He plans to attend American.

well, I'm biased, parent of an AU student - I can't really make a comparison to GW since I don't know much about GW but I can tell you my S is in honors at AU with a merit scholarship and is extremely happy. Loves the courses, profs, students, amazing speakers come to campus and of course DC is DC whether you're at AU or GW. Good luck to all with your decisions!

i don't understand how the scholarship is merit-based... and then they didn't give me extra financial aide because the scholarship amount "matched or exceeded my need"... doesn't that take away from the merit-based aspect of the scholarship?

aly556... think of it like an outside scholarship. When you receive the scholarship, you have to let FA know about it and it gets figured into your package. Therefore, when you received the merit aid, they automatically take it into account and therefore your need is reduced. If the scholarship covers your your need or a little bit more, then you should be in good.

GW does not match. I was offered major merit aid by other schools, nothing from GW. Then again, I was early decision which may be why this happened. Went to GW anyway.
