Will they take people off of the waitlist? It seems to me they should give people the opportunity to get in whoās stats arenāt off the charts.
@PerformingDude, my Amherst grad married a Williams grad. Iāve come to like them as well!
I have to say Iāve dreamed about having a partner who is a Williams grad. Thereād be a lot of fun banter.
Hey My friend got waitlisted too, what are you stats if you could share
Amherst typically doesnāt admit many, if any applicants from the waitlist unfortunatelyā¦
I will say that Amherst is pretty good at not overemphasizing stats, especially test scores, in their admissions decisions. Anecdotally, I got in last year as an unhooked applicant with my SAT hovering around the 25th percentile.
You can imagine how the wedding was!
Waitlisted too. I read on their admissions site that typically they waitlist 500 and accept only 20-25
DD was accepted. 34 ACT, 3.94 UW, pilotās license, job, study abroad scholarship senior year. Unhooked.
Still in shock and very excited to be a Mammoth!
~450 is the size of their āincoming classā. So their expected enrollments. They did not publish # of applicants admitted. Their yield is probably less than 50%ā¦
Last yearās yield was 39.8%.
D22 was accepted!! 3.96 UW; 1570 SAT; ECs are mostly STEM and Performing arts. Showed lots of intellectual curiosity.
DS was Waitlisted
My Dās case is similar - we thought she had little chance after getting a C in second semester AP Calc last year (virtual learning was not for her), but apparently Amherst was able to look beyond that and truly view her application holistically. She does have very unique ECs, but is otherwise unhooked. She is looking forward to joining you next year!
Iām so happy for your daughter! I canāt wait to see her on campus soon!
Son accepted. We have not yet had a chance to visit the campus. He is interested in the sciences & applied math and statistics. He attends an all boys private school. Studious ( involved in rare disease research), but also young, at least for his class (not yet 18), captain of robotics and mock trial, but not a varsity level athlete (fences with a local club and on the Ultimate team at his school).
Would appreciate any information and impressions on student life. My son is not a partier, but is social, and seems to have a concern about how to fit in as a non athlete.
We will be visiting over Spring Break.
Thanks, in advance.
Hey Suzie! Feel free to dm me with any questions
My daughter is similar to your son - not a partier but very social. Possible premed (loves the sciences), but could major in anything from Chinese to Environmental Studies to Biology to Political Science! Also not an athlete but may be interested in joining club water polo just for fun. While she has had some of the same concerns about fitting in, (both socioeconomically and as a non-athlete), she loves nearly everything about Amherst and will very likely attend this fall. She is currently in Taiwan studying abroad for senior year, so will not be able to visit - I would be interested in hearing your impressions over Spring Break!
Congrats on the acceptance!
FWIW, my daughter is not a partier, doesnāt drink, and has a very active social life.
She joined crew (which is club there), and said they are kind of in a place between the athlete and non-athlete crowds. There is a bit of a split, but not as big as you would think if your info just comes from CC.
