Amherst College: Chance me?

I’m a 17 year old girl who goes to a public school in New Jersey. My GPA weighted is a 4.64 and unweighted a 4.0. I got a 2200 superscore on the old SAT (750 math, 710 reading, 740 grammar) and 680 on english SAT 2 and 610 on math 2 SAT 2. I did not study for either of these SAT 2’s so my scores do not necessarily reflect my normal grades. I’ve taken 4 AP’s so far (AP Statistics sophomore year, AP Calculus AB, AP Physics C, and AP English Language and Composition) and got a 4,5,3,and 5 (in that order). This year, for my senior year, I am taking AP biology, AP Literature, AP Calculus BC and AP French.

I played soccer freshman and sophomore year and softball every year of high school. I also have played the piano for 11 years. I’ve been involved in a lot of community service projects like Relay for Life (5 years) and tutoring around town, to name a few. I’m the President of the French Honors Society and I’m in the french club as well as am in 5 honors societies. I also do Poetry Out Loud every year. I also won an award for the state under the New Jersey Future Educators Association.

Last thing to say is that I am undecided. I have so many interests and am having difficulty picking one major or concentration.

So yeah, that’s me. Weird to list that all anywhere other than a resume or college app but thanks for those taking the time to read, I really appreciate it!

You are in the ballpark. The problem is that many, many other qualified applicants are also in the ballpark. At schools like Amherst and Williams, a lot of extremely qualified people don’t get in just because there are not enough spots in the class. So go for it, but realize that it is also a bit of a crapshoot.

Like the guy above me said, when people like you apply, it comes down to a coinflip. A buddy of mine didnt get in with your grades, 36 on SAT’s, Varsity Basketball and Baseball 4 years, to name a few. Best of luck, but if you dont get in its not because you arent qualified. Chance me back?

Are you varsity softball? Are you good/interested enough to play DIII?

I’m an alum and my daughter will be applying. Similar stats as you. Met with admissions office and was told that Amherst was a “match” for her…not a reach, not a safety. Not clear if they were taking her legacy status into account when providing that assessment…I’m guessing they were.
