Amherst College Class of 2017 Official Thread

Hi everyone I know everyone hates this question but I am wondering if my acceptance to amherst may get rescinded. I got accepted with a 88 average and second semester I will be around an 81 average. Is this grounds for losing my acceptance? I was accepted off the wait list.

Not to my knowledge. I’ve heard that you have to REALLY screw up in order to get rescinded.

Yeah, I wouldn’t worry about that if I was you. It’s not that significant of a decrease. And congratulations on being accepted off of the waitlist!

Does anyone know if Amherst admissions funds visits for admitted students? I was just admitted off the waitlist and plan to attend, but I have never gotten to see the campus or meet any faculty/students.

Hellocello44. I doubt that they would do that at this point but doesn’t hurt to ask the admission office. Did they send you fin aid info and how long did they say you had to make a decision?

@RBRoden- Thanks! I figured the chances were small. I found out my fin aid yesterday, same day I was admitted. I have a week to call back admissions to confirm or deny my acceptance, but I’m already 95% decided :)

Has anyone started to submit any of the forms on ACData? I’ve submitted two or three and there’s really no verification that the forms have been submitted or received. Comments on this would be appreciated, I want to make sure they’re receiving these forms! I really don’t want to do them again haha.

@brightstack I haven’t received any confirmation either.

If any current student is reading this, what are your thoughts on James, Stearns, and Charles Pratt? I know that Pratt is the nicest one aesthetically but I want to know more about the social atmosphere of those three dorms. Thanks!

Parent here: Oscarlany, Stearns was a substance free dorm this year ( S loved the atmosphere of like minded kids who were fun yet preferred quiet living space), not everyone’s cup of tea I know… Both James and Stearns are modern, new with very attractive ( for a dorm!) living quarters; lots of singles/ large doubles.I am sure students can further expand on the social scene
Congrats to all!!

@brightstack @Oscarlany
There’s some explanation of this at the top of the parental info form. Basically, the submit button is actually a save button. You know it’s gone through if the text is still there when returning to the page.

Ah, thank you so much!

As an Amherst student, I’d just like to say that Facebook is a great tool for knowing about upcoming events.

How do you say about comparing Amherst to Williams?;)
