Is it possible to appeal the decision?

@gigichuck ,
Congrats for your great achievement!!!
Could you please post detailed stats and country?
It would be really great help for future intnl applicants!

@goldengluer

SAT: 1510 First and only time (790M, 720 R&W)
3.7 GPA
I’m from Nigeria. I’ll post detailed stats on the decision thread. @harrya

@goldengluer

I wrote the supplement.

And for anyone wondering about the tilde ~ beside financial aid documents, I had it and got accepted. I don’t believe there’s any correlation between the sign and the decision.

@filipiyes ,

Is anyone in this thread definitely attending Amherst, now that you have been accepted?

If not, are you not sure because of other college results not in or financial aid not yet ready?

(Amherst parent, just curious)

@gigichuck
Thank you

@28cats, thanks for your posting. My D18 confirmed she didn’t read the ‘long’ acceptance letter completely, so initially missed the FinAid info towards the bottom. We will wait for it. When we met their FinAid officer last Fall, and discussed about it, they told us, Amherst only does grants after EFC is being calculated. We have to wait and see how much the grant is for our D18. Keeping fingers crossed!

@harrya check my reply history :slight_smile:

Is there an accepted students GroupMe?

@DancingwithStars Yes, check on the FB page.

@kassh4 don’t have FB, could you PM me the link?

Congratulations @kacombs

What was your hook/demographics/background if I may ask?

@OuchThatHurt Thanks! I’m not sure I really have a particular “hook”. I am white, female, and go to large public school in Lexington, Ky. I do live with a single mom with 3 kids- on paper our financial situation looks pretty grim, but we do fine. I have a 33 ACT, and I’m in my school’s gifted and talented program/liberal arts academy. GPA- 3.8-3.85 unweighted, 4.6-4.7 weighted. Not sure of my exact class rank but somewhere between top 10-20%. Decent extracurricular involvement and leadership positions, mainly focused around political activism and community service. I don’t play an instrument or do any sports. I started my own cake decorating business thing when I was 12… I attended a 5 week Governor’s Scholars Program before senior year that was pretty tough to get into (about 1000 of Kentucky’s “best and brightest” juniors make it every year)… I have an internship working with foster kids this year… I’m in NHS and an AP Scholar with Distinction but other than that I have no significant awards. I wrote my common app essay about how much I love food… lol. And I honestly threw together my supplemental essay the night it was due. I wrote something about how people need to be more open-minded and find common ground with one another which honestly sounds pretty cheesy. My economic/familial status may have given me the diversity advantage? I used a good portion of the additional info section to kinda talk about my dad’s negative influence in my life and how it’s affected me, my mental health, and my school performance (he’s not the best guy). That’s all I can think of lol. I’ve reread my acceptance letter so many times because I’m still shocked it’s real. I felt like such a mediocre applicant for such a great school and had 0% confidence I’d get in.

im a triple legacy (my dad, brother, and sister all attended) and got in to amherst on friday! i have been waitlisted by most of my other schools so far and i absolutely love amherst, so most likely i will be there next fall! see yall then

Hey @kacombs don’t undersell yourself, that’s great stuff! I’m sure it’ll also be helpful to all those who read this thread next year. I particularly like the fact that you have a cake decorating business (I myself own a fandom candle business) because let’s be real: that’s super awesome.

Congratulations once again :slight_smile:

@equality4all did you end up getting in lol?
