Amherst ED 2016... anybody?

@LittleMissPink Well I think that the admissions office close for the weekend, so people who call that are in distress have the weekend to cool down.

@blindsided on my main computer I can’t access “My Amherst” account anymore because I have gone on it so many times… hahha. But when I go on any other computer, I can access it. That might be your problem, so I wouldn’t worry :)

@bluecanary: I used to play Pokemon all the time on my little gameboy advance LOL I don’t really like Girls Generation but I do like 2ne1, wonder girls, IU :)

@blindsided: I second bluecanary’s comment… Mine still works :confused: You might want to call or email Amherst about it :x

ahhhh I see thanks for the help! although I think it might be a bit creepy and awkward if I email them about why I cant access my account when I know my application is complete…So I guess I will have to spend my time coming up with major disillusioned theories on why I cant access it sigh haha

Man, I hope we all get in because I kind of want to meet all of you :)

Hi everyone! I applied ED and am counting down the days until decisions come out. Does anyone know if decisions are getting emailed or mailed or posted online? Thanks!

I believe the notifications come by postal mail …

My question is if Amherst sends acceptance/rejects all at once, or piecemeal as they make decisions.

Also - Did any of you in the group submit a resume’ ?

@blindsided : Ah, yeah I could gather that much, and my ECAs really do consist of what I’m passionate about, in fact, my whole application sorta shouts that, but will it stand out enough and make through the scrutiny of several admissions officers ? I’ll just have to wait and see… …and nope, I read translated manga and watch anime with English subs …are you Japanese/Korean by any chance ? And yup , I think our ED thread’s gonna stand out lol…by the way, that happened twice when they changed my name on the My Amherst account (they were sorta really confused with it), they still didn’t get it right this time, but they’ve assured me they have it right on their database. It works fine for me now, so you better e-mail the admissions office .

@Ellie512 : tell me about it…but hey, going through many of the stuff at the “My Amherst” account, such as videos and articles can be pretty cool…I probably have the Amherst website almost memorized lol

@LittleMissPink : yup, I’m kind of feeling, that if we all get in, we’d all be great friends before we even see each other at Amherst. Well, about the ACData system, I’ve noticed that “ED Signature” was added in as “Received” recently (don’t think I remember “ED Signature” being in that chart at all when I first logged in). If I’m not making a mistake, that means they’re done processing my application and now it’s in line to be considered. I’ve heard most foreign universities consider international applications at the very end, after they’re done with domestic applications, so that might mean most, if not all, domestic applicants’ applications have gone through admissions officer’s eyes already. Then again, this is a huge hypothesis with very little basis, so we just have to wait and see :slight_smile: …by the way, I like Girls’ Generation, wonder girls, IU and 2ne1 all at the same time, though I do admit I only like a handful of songs from each band. And yeah, I used to be addicted to Pokemon ruby, sapphire, gold, crystal, emerald etc on my Gameboy Advance lol …

@bluecanary : looks like you’re in the club …I still have a drawer full of the Pokemon cards I used to be crazy about …it really used to be the show I looked forward to the most the entire day.

@bosanskijezik : Yup, same here :)

@lowdenf23c : Hi ! :D

@amfreborg : I think the chances of all the decisions coming out at once are highest. Just have this gut feeling.

@amfreborg : nope, no resume, just listed stuff down on the Common App :)

@amfreborg - I didn’t submit a resume either. I almost submitted one, but then I decided that most of it would be redundant info. The only thing I had on there that might have been interesting to 'em were my lab skills…but I doubt that would have strongly affected the admissions decision anyway.

@Fullmetal01: Hm… I actually have ED Signature as one of the first things they received :o But then again, I wasn’t really paying toooo much attention so I may be wrong! I really hope the admissions officers were in a good mood when reading our apps… :slight_smile: Same! Even though I am Korean, I am not really a fan of kpop per say, but I do like a select few from those artists. I do enjoy the Wonder World album :slight_smile:

@amfreborg: I actually attached a resume just to elaborate a bit more on some of my activities. It probably won’t help me at all (may even hurt me a bit-- who knows?) but after contemplating and asking the admissions officers during one of their chats, I decided to. Honestly, it probably doesn’t matter :)

@LittleMissPink : Wow, it’s cool that you’re Korean ^^ so you actually understand the lyrics in the songs…for me I sort of take in the music, and the rhythm, incorporate the words as part of the music itself. So, did you apply as an international applicant, or as a domestic one? (that is, if you have american citizenship) :)

@Fullmetal01: Yup I usually understand the lyrics :smiley: Same thing with me when I listen to french songs or even Chinese songs! I love how music can be appreciated by and reach out to so many different people. Sigh, I wish I were musically talented haha

I was actually born and raised in the US but my parents grew up in Korea! So yup, I am a domestic applicant! I think it’s pretty cool how Amherst accepts a lot of international students :slight_smile: Do you/did you go to an international school?

@Full metal; Same is the case with me, i have a focused direction of where I’m leading myself as a person, Your EC’s are taken in the context of your personal and academic background, somehow I feel the more unique you represent yourself higher the chances they pic you up. Plus im sure they looking for shiny medals that show your the best at what YOU do. nope im not Japanese/Korean…Im from Pakistan, I just have a command on way too many languages because of my interest in different literature texts and music. :smiley:
ummm they got my name right…its fairly simple lol but lets see.

@amfreborg no resume, the common app space was more then enough to list it

@bosanskijezik touche !! I really do hope everyone gets in :D

Well, I just feel so plain jane…I’m the white boy from the suburbs in the Midwest (so ready to experience something new). No culture here unless you count that I’m a red head :slight_smile: But, I’m really glad to see some diversity. I’ve been longing for it for quite sometime.

Same here @bosankijezik! I’m a white girl from Connecticut =P. That’s part of the reason why I want Amherst too. The world is so much bigger than our little towns.

@Ellie512: Thank you for summing up my wishes exactly. I’ve lived in the same town 40 minutes from St. Louis my whole life. I’m tired of the same old perspective. I can’t wait to talk to people who have seen and done things I’ve never even herad of before.

@bosanskijezik and Ellie512 : and here I am looking forward to know about your towns and lifes and so forth…there will be alot we can all learn from each other im sure :)

@bosanskijezik and others --

Same here on the midwest “plain Jane” – white guy from midwest suburbs … public school. Counselors here aren’t that encouraging on prospects at schools like Amherst - so I’ve pursued this dream on my own (with my parents support).

I’m both a Shakespeare and manga/anime’ fanatic, and am dying to become immersed in the English dept. and manga club. The one rather unique thing concerning my school is that it allowed me to study Japanese since the 8th grade. Last summer I was able to do an exchange at a Japanese HS in Hiroshima for 6 weeks, and they let me be a student assistant English teacher. I’m hoping that Amherst will look at least a little favorably on this.

I REALLY want to participate the Amherst/Doshisha (Kyoto) University exchange.

@LittleMissPink : I don’t think I’ve listened to any french songs, but I did listen to many chinese ones, the latest being those of Jackie Chan’s songs that I brought back from China in 2010. Music is amazing, and yeah, I think everyone at some level wish to be musically talented :slight_smile: Have you ever been to Korea ? ^^ I don’t know how many international students they accept, but I sure do hope they accept a lot ! …and I completed my O-Levels and GCE A-Levels under a British education board called Edexcel International. I don’t know if you count that as international schooling :)

@blindsided : you live like 1800 km away from my place, and this may be weird, but I’m kind of surprised that someone from Pakistan is willing to study literature :slight_smile: It’s like, in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, India and Bhutan etc…(South Asia basically), most students I know opt for business, medicine, science or engineering. You’re pretty talented to know that many languages and to be actually able to watch anime and read manga in Japanese ! congratulations , I really want to take a few foreign language courses at Amherst if I get in, I’ve never had the time to learn a new language ^^

@Ellie512 and bosanskijezik : like blindsided , I want to get to know more about your towns and how life goes on there, the only American culture I know I’ve learned from TV, the internet and books, but I still wonder how all that really feels :D

@amfreborg : wow that’s sugoi ! (“amazing” in Japanese, just in case people here wonder what it means) …I really really wanted to do an exchange program like that in Japan, but we don’t have that here…this may be silly to ask, but is school life in Japan really as exciting as it seems in anime/manga/j-dramas ? :smiley: …I’m totally with you, I seriously want to participate in an Amherst/Doshisha University exchange ! :)
