Waitlisted. Any news? When do you think we’ll start hearing?

From Texas here. I got a call in the middle of my last class today, it was from a blocked number so I almost didn’t pick up. So glad I did! It was a counselor from the admissions office.
Accepted off the wait-list and could not be happier!

OMG OMG OMG!!! Congrats!! Will you be going?? Can I ask, did you do anything after accepting your place on the waitlist?

She said the official letter with my financial aid packet and everything would reach me within the week and that I have a week to make my official decision.
I’m most likely going to take it!

WOW, congrats!! I’m waiting for Amherst as well. Are they still notifying?

Got a call yesterday while I wasn’t home telling me to give a call to the admissions office. Called this morning and they informed me that I was off the waitlist.

So surprised. Not sure if I deserved it, but I’m happy nonetheless. Good luck to all of you!

Wow, you guys are so lucky… Did you guys do anything else besides replying to the waitlist form?

If you check the FAQs for the waitlist, they say that sending a letter with a detailed response to the waitlist is a good idea. I sent my letter a week after I got the waitlist notification. My letter was a page and a half double spaced.

I began by thanking them and talking about how I’ve been doing this year in school (significantly better than previous years) and what I’ve been doing in terms of extracurriculars. That was about a ten sentence paragraph. Then I poured my heart out for the remaining page about how much I wanted to go and why. I tried to incorporate as much humor as I could too. Some of what I said to be funny was pretty silly - I didn’t think it would matter a whole lot. I was pretty sad after decisions came out and wanted to have some fun with the letter before going down.

I really don’t feel like my application is all that strong, especially for an Asian student. My scores are great, but my GPA when applying was a 3.56, which seems significantly lower than many of the people that were admitted/waitlisted. So, it seems logical that the letter mattered a lot. Know what makes Amherst special to you, be passionate and be genuine.

I contacted them about a week ago to check on some financial aid stuff as well as what I should do as a wait listed applicant (this was before I knew I was in) and they said sending a letter in was still a good idea (a second one). So, it’s likely that you should still try sending them a letter. Good luck!

P.S. I’m going to be requiring a lot of financial aid, so if that was worrying you at all, it shouldn’t. Given my situation I don’t think they factor that in much if at all.

oh no do you guys think they’ll still be accepting people off the waitlist?

I got off the waitlist as well!!
SO MUCH HAPPINESS!!
To be honest, I have not idea why they took me, because I actually didn’t do anything regarding the waitlist - no mail, email or phone call.
In my acceptance letter they told me they really enjoyed my essays, so I suppose that saved me.
AMHERST, HERE I COME! (:

They called me today and offered me a spot! (International student by the way)
Now I just have to worry about getting that student visa.

I got the call today at 2:30 PST. I sent in a letter of interest, a new rec, and a comic book. Now I have a tough choice between Williams and Amherst!

For me Amherst is no brainer. It was always my first choice. The best LAC in the USA. For you it even easier to fly there from California.

Hey Congrats to those who got in
Do they email u if you miss the call?
What were u guyss SATs n gpas

Hey which country r u from
I’m also international bc I’m from Canada

SAT 2340, GPA 4.56 W, 3.9 W, USA.

They called me, but for my other colleges that I got off the waitlist for, they called, emailed, left several messages, and Middlebury even called my school when they couldn’t get a hold of me. If they decide to accept you, they will contact you, even if it’s tough.

Gosh this is killing me I guess I didn’t get off the wait list. Congratulations though, all of you!

Theviolethour, so do you have any idea where you’ll be going? It sounds like you have quite a few offers I’m quite envious as I have none. Sigh.

lilredboxes, I’m really sorry for what you’re going through. The fact that colleges waitlist so many people is just horrible. I was put on 7 waitlists, and I decided that I was going to give it my everything and pour all of April into trying to get off them. I am so fortunate to have been so successful. I’ve narrowed my choice down to Amherst and Williams and will be visiting this weekend to decide between them. The trip will wipe out my savings, but it’s money I am so lucky to have the chance to spend. Although you didn’t ask for it, my advice to you is to continue to send updates and continue expressing interest. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Good luck!

Thanks for that! Wow 7 wait lists. I got 5 rejects and 3 wait lists, and it’s really frustrating. I’m an international student by the way, and I’ve invested so much of the past few years in this study-in-the-States dream that I’ve been feeling quite disoriented at this apparent ‘failure’ (I know this is only one way to look at it, and a not so good one at that, but at this point that’s just what it feels like).

And the smart thing I did was, out of the three wait lists I only focused on AC, in writing in and telling them how much I want AC, and sending in recs and stuff. I just sent a second ‘update’ last week but didn’t get a reply, so I don’t really wanna continue and then begin to annoy people.

Congrats though! Both top LACs! I don’t know much about Williams but from what I’ve read Williams is kinda in the middle of nowhere? AC isnt exactly in a city but there’re a good few other colleges/uni nearby and a pretty decent college town, methinks.

But anyhoo, all the best! :D

I’m still waiting! And I’m still holding onto the last shred of hope there is… I called Friday 3pm and asked if they were still accepting waitlisted candidates, and they said yes. Unfortunately that “yes” can mean a lot of things, so I’m not really sure anymore…
