Amherst hopeful

Hi,
I was wondering if Amherst is a possibility for me.

I have a 3.25 unweighted IB gpa

My brother attended as well as my grandfather and great grandfather on my mothers side.

My mother never finished college and my father finished in his 40s so that he could create a better future for me.

I do plan on applying ED

ED, IB, and being a legacy will definitely give you a hand up. However, that information isn’t enough to base an educated guess off of as to whether or not you will get in…if you post your other stats I’m sure people can be of more help!

I am a white male
One sport and One club but I plan on more
Intended major: something similar to philosophy and english

Test scores? Rank? Awards? Also, when are you applying? Can you bring your GPA up at all?

I am not a senior this year so my gpa definitely can go up. I am in the top 25% of my class that has over 600 students

The typical Amherst student is in the top 5% of their class, so it will be a reach.

Thats what i figured

Try to do as well as possible on your standardized tests. Definitely try to bring that GPA and rank up, hopefully you can be top ten percent by next year. With that, you definitely have a good chance. It’ll take a lot of hard work, though.
