Anyone who is Russian, speaks the language or is somehow affiliated to Russia and who is going to Amherst or is considering it welcome. I am thinking of atedning the college and I want to know what kind of Russian community will be there

I don't fit any of those categories, but I have Russian ancestry, love Russian literature, and want to study abroad in Russia!

That's nice. are u going to amherst?

I had to read Crime & Punishment last month for my english class, and one of my best friends is a Russian Jew

that is about as Russian as I get

oh, I am also doing Cold War in my history class ... hahaha

Good old fashioned Internet flame war!

dendankin, you're right. the school should just forget about race all together. if she's black and stupid doesnt mean people should feel bad for her and lower the admission standard just to let her in. i know many smart black people and they do work hard. people shouldnt use their races as an excuse for being lazy or stupid.

I will certainly remind my D to stay away from any first-year Russian dissent[sic]

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

sounds insulting, doesn't it

Congrats - you should all be proud. Prof. Taubman in poli sci just received prestigious award and grant to continue his work on the biography of Gobachev. He is a Pulitzer prize winner for his book on Kruschev. His wife is one of the Russian profs. Sounds like you will be in good company.

It's the Guggenheim. I also post as evitajr1 - one's at work and one at home.
