Amherst Transfers

College Board stats on Amherst:

Number of transfers who applied for fall term: 412

Number of transfers who were admitted for fall term: 23

Definitely some epic stuff here (worse than Columbia and Dartmouth even). Good luck guys.

And the numbers for Middlebury are just as bleak:

Fall 2008: Middlebury does not accept transfer applications due to overenrollment
Fall 2007: 246 transfer applicants, 30 admitted, 14 enrolled
Fall 2006: 199 transfer applicants, 7 admitted, 4 enrolled
Fall 2005: 230 transfer applicants, 1 admitted, 0 enrolled
Fall 2004: 221 transfer applicants, 9 admitted, 3 enrolled

For those of us who can't visit: Around Campus

OCC where else did u apply to? Cali is certainly an odd state, ppl are really close minded here so a majority of the ppl have never heard of these top schools, esp lib arts schools. I am from back east so i am well versed in them all, but when i had to get my counselor to fill out co reports... man o man, he is like ugh the UCs dont make us do this. 18 schools?? I thought I wont the trophy at my ccc for applying to the most non cali schools.

U do have berkeley tho on your list as your safety tho right? being ccc transfer you have a ridiculous rate of getting in to at least one top 25 school if all your others dont pan out. plus, all that nasty igetc work wont go to waste =).

What attracted me to the school initially was the five college system.

Be a little careful here. While the 5 college consortium does allow you to take classes at the other schools, there are some practical aspects to consider:

You are only able to take classes that are open after the students in that college have registered.

Unless you have your own transportation, it can be difficult to fit classes at the more distant colleges into your schedule. UMass is close, but others like Smith can pose logistic problems if you're taking the shuttle. This is very different from the Claremont colleges which are all close together and within easy walking distance.

So… I just got denied from Middlebury which is fine… I’m just worried that if I’m not good enough for Middlebury then I don’t have a shot at Amherst.

Hey OCC, its too little too late but JKC scholar. Ask your JKC rep to appoint you. Maybe then u have a leg up to Amherst?

what is JKC? Nvm, it’s too late. I found out about it a day before the deadline. I so regret not applying for it

So, I just got the stats from Middlebury, and it’s not as bad as I thought. I was going to try to make myself feel better by saying, “oh, they only took 7” but…

“We admitted 24 transfer candidates from a pool of 218 applicants.”

Amherst is out for me.

Well, that scares the crap out of me.

i got into middlebury!!!

omg, wow! Congrats! You going?

hey, do you know if Amherst has rolling decisions? June 1st sounds really late

hello, I applied to transfer to Amherst as well…I won’t get in though, so that should make some of you feel better
I realized that the other day when I looked at their statistics for transfers…and then thought about my 3.2…
I also read that we’ll know in late may? somewhere I don’t know where…

I know this is the Amherst thread, but does anyone know how things are for transfers at Smith College?

I figured I’d bump this thread since we’re finding out this week. Good luck everyone!

this week? OCCT, how did you hear about that?

end of this week, or mid-week?

I called, and she just said they’re being sent out this week. I asked which day of the week, but she didn’t know.

dam. finals this week on top of dartmouth, amherst, and williams? can you say pressure?
