Would you say that not being in a major urban area disadvantages Wellesley for internship and career opportunities? I’m considering Barnard as well which I guess would be advantageous b/c NYC is right there… but also I really like Wellesley. Any thoughts?
Wellesley College is a well respected institution and is around 30 minutes from Boston proper, I believe. You’re basically there, so I don’t think that would really affect your ability to obtain an internship/begin a career. Even if that’s still a fear for you, the Wellesley Alumnae network is strong, so I think you’d be okay. (But I don’t really know anything, I’m a prospie as well).
My D graduated from Wellesley - her 2 internships were during the summer, not during the school year. She held paid employment during the school year.
Wellesley had a grant fund that allowed her to take unpaid internships. The grant paid for her living expenses for the summer. One internship was in Chicago, the other was in Boston.
As a graduate, the Wellesley Alumnae network has been amazing.
Sophomore student here! I think that Career Education at Wellesley is excellent and there are always companies coming to visit and recruit at Wellesley (mostly for Econ, Poli Sci, and CS students). Additionally, Wellesley has ties to MIT, Olin, and Babson and we are fairly easily able to attend their events. Wellesley buses run every hour so it is fairly easy to make it into Boston either on the weekends or during the weekday (class schedule permitting) to take advantage of anything happening in the city.
